rps cluches

Recommended Posts

i hav an rps paddle clutch n my 180 and supra twin turbo, both are new (sub 2500 miles ish each). both clutches have 'welded' themselves to the flywheel. leaving me without gears. great.

this is without much abuse

has anyone else had the same problem?

What RPS do you have ... a max street one ???

It suprises me as I have a RPS max street clutch with RPS lightened flywheel. Paul Whiffin recommended this one ... Whifbitz runs RPS clutches on 2 of their Time Attack Supra's.

It's not a problem related to rps, as all clutches who run a metalic puck/plate will suffer from this. HKS triple plates are reported to weld themselves to the flywheels, as well. High slippage lends to high heat which lends to the two metals bonding.

Stage 1 Sport Street for 93-98 TT Supra, i have this one recently fitted my car feels ok so far and its standard tt, i hope i wont suffer this problem

Seeing as you do about 3 miles a year it's not likely to be an issue :D

Getting quite nervous now - had an n/a TT swap and installed the RPS STREET MAX as is the norm (:search: advised) and gear selection has steadily got worse over past couple of months - im still running my 5 speed box with the original thrust bearing..

is that why they were going cheap, seriously does that mean all supras will be affected or only the puck type ones?

More than likely not, people have also stated they have no issues with them.

I bought my 200sx with an RPS max street already fitted with lightened flywheel and the previous owner said it had been in the car for about 12 months before he sold it, so that makes it appx 15 months old and car has only done 5k (ish) miles.
