I take it the marriage was consumated

Can a marriage be annulled if it's been consumated?

Mmm... perhaps so... one condition for annullment:

The marriage is prohibited by law due to the relationship between the parties. This is the "prohibited degree of consanguinity", or blood relationship between the parties. The most common legal relationship is 2nd cousins; the legality of such relationship between 1st cousins varies around the world.

Maybe under these circumstances but not normally.

It went to the high court, so I guess it was beyond the 'normal' annullment!

What if they hadn't found out & had a child. You can imagine the scene in the delivery room.

"Congratulations Mr & Mrs X, you have a healthy 12 fingered, web toed, two headed baby boy"
