    Idle Vibration

Update: had the car in with the mechanic this weekend. Had the autobox & diff oil changed and the drive belt tensioner checked. Had the car up on the ramp alongside another J spec & the only difference that could be found was the engine mounts appeared to be sat on their arse in comparison to the other car. So, a new set of mounts is about £50 plus vat per mount & then the labour to fit them which is apparently a ballache. i'm due a service so a new set of plugs are due anyway & should eliminate another thing.
  2. wow! that looks amazing. can you just take off wherever you feel like if you own one & fly wherever you want? or is it restricted to airfields? wonder how far you could fly on a tank of fuel...

oops sorry gaz, for some reason i thought it was Edd that had started this off! good job there wasn't someone getting in their car at the time & got the paint pot on the head! that could have been nasty
  4. there's a nice sticky here http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=56684 that gives some good recommendations. silkolene for regular use & valvoline for those who only do short journeys (been considering trying this for my next oil change since i normally only do short journeys, but have been happy with the silkolene for that last year)
  5. if it's mechanical see if you can find someone local & just swap them to test it out? 2.2 bar would feel rather harsh i would expect in terms of boost, did it feel any stronger than normal? mine sits at about 15 below zero at idle & zero when off
  6. according to the calendar i'm already coming, which saves me deciding

every credit for your honesty & willingness to help these folks out Edd, most people would get shown the sign in the Tesco car park that says 'we are not responsible for any damage..na..na..naa'
  8. the main issues with using an aftermarket filter are: - poor filtration - heat from the engine bay the Apexi filter seems to have a reputation for being good at filtration according to some tests done against other filters by MKIV.com and you can get heat shields that apparently reduce the amount of hot air getting to the filter an issue i've heard of going the other way though is that aftermarket/hard pipe intercooler kits have been known to get in the way of the stock airbox and therefore require either the stock airbox to be modified or an after market filter to be fitted i loved the sound with the Apexi on, it was like an aircraft taking off sometimes but ended up putting it back to stock when i realised the heat issue. but i keep referring back to this post from mr wilson when i think of putting it back on http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=26369 a decent heatshield would probably persuade me to go back to it for a bit though!
  9. any supra specific mounting brackets for the FMIC?
  10. who wouldn't be miffed at missing an evening with Mike, it's the only reason i turn up
  11. just found an old email from last year about the Straightliners events & it was £45 then too! must be getting a bit crazy in my old age
  12. if it was me i would definitely be comparing your settings to what they are recommending. this other link at the bottom seems good too http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/9589/dsbc_manual.html i wouldn't recommend changing anything unless you're confident you know what you're doing, which you would be after having a good read up on it i bet if you ain't sure then don't mess with it! just in case remember i was saying about getting that pipework checked out though since one looked like it was hanging off? and also that you could watch your boost gauge to see what boost it was actually making when you were driving? i'd start with monitoring the boost gauge & if it seems to be working as is, then just leave it, but get its connections checked by someone who knows what they're doing or by following that guide
  13. was an ace night last night. spent that long chatting that didn't even wander any further than where we were to see what else was about! Matt, no probs on the investigation work, i think this might help you out a bit more http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/blitz_dsbc/index.html lookin forward to next month

  19. better make it about 6.15pm, there's some roadworks on the M55 at the moment & i've got a mate who wants to follow me down in his new Celica GT4 & he doesn't finish work till 5.30pm
  20. £45?!!! surely not, that's just outrageous if it is that price, i certainly won't be bothering Santa Pod is usually no more than about £30 including gate entrance & unlimited runs
  21. sounds good to me, although we could just meet at Mascrat? i seem to remember missing the turn for the shell garage last time & ended up driving 2 miles further to be able to turn around! and i'll probably do it again
  22. you're right, there is one this Sunday the thing i like about Elvington is there are no walls!! just fields! it's a great day out & i would highly recommend taking your car down, because you will change your mind! i can't make this Sunday but am hoping to go down mext month
  23. cheers mate, have been in touch with Trevor who organises Straightliners & the details are as follows: RWYB Test & Tune Day - 12th March Round 1 - 9th April Round 2 and Scooby Shootout - 21st May Round 3 - 2nd July Round 4 and TOTB cars - 30th July Round 5 - 10th Sept You are able to turn up and race on any of the dates, but insurance requires you to be a Straightliners member for the day or for the year (awaiting confirmation of the cost of this). Last time i went it cost £25 for the day, unlimited runs.
  24. i'm up for that matey, i can usually leave work for about 5.15pm so say about 6ish?
