  5. Sorry, Katie and I will be in bedfordshire for Christmas & New Year with the family, can recomend the Half Moon though, cracking pub and good food. Well.....we will be in bedfordshire if we get the car back, took it to toyota today for drive belts (cam & accessory), tensioner, plugs, oil & filter and to look into that rear wheel bearing problem. They put it on the ramp at 08.00 and its still there at 19.00, they found the front crankshaft oil seal weeping and they don't carry that part in stock (funnily enough).
  6. DB Thanks for the offer but I'll try mig's idea first, If I make an arse of that I may ask again if thats ok? Garetheves I'll take some pics when I've got it done. TDAXGAV No big rush on those bits, but I do still need those side light bulbs. Cheers all
  7. Cheers fella. But if I have to take mine apart to fit your black backs I might as well paint mine as I've already got the paint. Thanks anyway.
  8. Cheers Mig. Off down B&Q tomorrow to buy a heat gun.
  9. I can quite honestly say I would never of thought of that. Cheers mig. Is that one of those big heat guns they use for electrical loom heatshrink? I might be able to borrow one of those from work.
  10. Got a small problem! Bought a couple of spare headlamps the other week off a fellow board member with the intention of having a go at painting the insides Satin Black. Guess what... my oven is too small, so I would like to ask is there any body local to me (Warminster, West Wilts) who wouldn't mind bunging them in there oven to separate the parts for me please? Failing that, is there anybody with a set already painted Satin Black who wants to swap for a standard set in very good condition? (Long shot I know). Cheers
  11. Yep!, took 7 days of my leave allowance and added it to the time they "made" us take. Wife's done the same, the joys of working in the Defence industry.
  12. Stock for the car is 16's, its an SZ, But they've been changed to 17 inch Enkei 5 spokes with the same offset as standard UK rims. Do the Turbo cars and the N/A's have the same rear hub assembly's?
  13. Agreed, but theres not that many roundabouts that you can really take at speed (there are a few good ones though). At slower speeds I don't think high force's are to be found there IMHO. My cars only been in the UK for 18 months, do they have roundabouts in Japan?
  14. I know you're not having a poke at anybody inparticular there Chris, but I've never smashed a wheel into the kerb and yet I still have the problem, there must be another reason? It just seems that after doing a search on here, every time somebody has had a rear wheel bearing problem it invariably turns out to be the nearside not the offside. I've been thinking about road cambers and taking bends at speed. Its difficult to illustrate my theory in words but I'll have a go. We all know that roads tend to camber down from the centre line of the Tarmac to the verge to aid in water shedding. Now because we drive on the left this means the car is inclined to one side whilst travelling (although only slightly). When you take a bend, centrifugal force try's to throw the car outwards from the bend hence "loading up" the suspension on that side and all things being equal if you were to take left and right hand bends at the same set speed the side loadings should be the same for either left or right bend. But all things are not equal if you allow for the camber which in a left bend would act a little like banking(because of it sloping down to the left) and spread the load more evenly across the car, in a right bend it would do the opposite and increase the loading on the nearside suspension. Does this theory hold any water or I just talking a load of old b*ll*x?

    I'm so HAPPY

CONGRATULATIONS!! Lee wears them but Genna choose's them!
  16. Quote from Toyota for rear wheel bearing inc fitting, £360 inc VAT. Booked it in for next Tues.
  17. Mine does it (1700-1800rpm), its normal and there is a reason, I just forget what it is!
  18. You're right. I checked my receipt and I did pay £55 for a calcium battery (bad memory). Mine's a J-spec, I didn't have any trouble with the terminals, they were exactly the same, it doesn't look like the cables have been changed either, unless they were done very early in the cars life. The battery I took off was a 60A/H 450 cold crank amps, is that a standard battery?
  19. Replaced mine last Thursday. Didn't shop around as I was in a hurry, so went to "Halfrauds". Bought a 65A/H, 510 cold crank amps for £50. Fires up first time, every time without any of that "starter motor hang up" that I used to get (Famous last words!!). I think it was a HCB 005.
  20. I'm beginning to get the impression that the rear wheel bearings are a common fault on the mkiv, near side in particular. Is this true? Anybody know why this might be?
