  1. He's not on my ignore list .. I find his posts quite amusing. Mainly, because he's always giving the vibe that he's 100% convinced that his opinions are correct - and everyone else is just 100% wrong. Abit like Mycroft. Btw John, it's not just me who's noticed this as well.
  2. Groovy! /vbb/images/smilies/bbcode_shock.gif
  3. Simple. Paul Evans & Miami-GT (BEFORE ANDY HANNAH OWNED IT) used to threaten the club with legal action all the time - when things weren't going his way. He got away with that kind of bullying then - Dan thinks he can do the same now. But this time, I think the mods are getting wise and are sick & tired of the "Ye Olde" Legal action.
  4. ... Don't get him started !! Next he'll be arguing that ditching the OEM radio isn't a good idea - because an aftermarket one has some effect on the electrical current drawn. Or maybe when he was arguing at some point that high AFRs were acceptable on WOT on his Calibre. .. I can't find the thread in question - but I know Alex & Ian .. "corrected" him.
  5. The EM makes your Thor FCD redundant. It can sense boost pressure & can also change ignitioni timing. On the Neo, not sure if it is aware of boost. I'm sure that it can't change the timing.
  6. Well, if you want to know how fast you can do 0-60. The drag strip is the only place, I can think of, to safely and accurately do it. If you want more performance, have you considered getting a Nitrous kit fitted ? Easiest way to increase performance without going the Turbo conversion route. Maybe £600-£800 for the kit & maybe £50 for a 11 lb bottle re-fills.
  7. Why don't you take it to a drag strip (pod for example) and find out what time you get ?
  8. Is det audible ? And if the ECU detects det does it try to retard the timing as much as possible ?
  9. Indeed. I only used Phoenix and another person in Oxfordshire (Caterton) for servicing/tuning. Mark will be missed by the community that's for sure.
  10. I agree some of what your saying. Infact I think I said it was a trade off - afew posts up . But I cannot accept the "that the SMIC will have the edge over the FMIC." Ian C has done a job of venting his bonnet without a scoop. AFAIK, apart from Wez & Tony License - all of the big power cars here are all using FMIC. So, I suggest we agree to disagree. You don't believe a FMIC would be of benefit over a SMIC and vice versa for me.
  11. I'm sure I've seen cooling fans on traders websites. Hmm, I'll to check. LOL! John, you have to admit you can't just mod a car and say "I want to run highboost above stock." "Aaahahhh .. but I can't uprate anything else needed because it wasn't designed for it. Oh bugger it - I'll run higher boost anyway." Your stockers weren't designed to run 1.2 bar were they ? (As in Toyota in their tech specs ... designed your car and everyone else's car @ 0.8 bar. But according to your sig - you're BPU ? Now, obviously your BPU setup is fine as it is - but seeing as Tricky-Ricky is running Hybrids and possibly on a max of 1.4 bar .... he's obviously got to do something See my point ?
  12. I see your point. The SMIC neatly gets rid of the nasty hot air. But if your going to have a hybrids or singles running higher boost .. I think it's a trade off. I cannot accept the fact that ... "Let's put some Hybrids in or a Single and the SMIC would be up to the job." But you could use bonnet vents to feed the hot air out and cold air in ? And an uprated rad fan ?
  13. Several long boost runs. As I said - fit a brand new SMIC to your car. And do a loooong blat up and down the motorway. Then do the same with FMIC same test. Either winter or summer. Providing that both tests are done on the same day and quite close to one another. Now, for sure you could argue that the ambient temperature has changed since you tested the FMIC. And yes, that is a valid point. However, to do any test - I think you'd need to make some assumptions ... otherwise it wouldn't be feasible TO DO the test in the first place because there are too many variables constantly changing. You could say ... "But what about fuel ?" "What about change in weather ?" "What about change in traffic ?"
  14. Agreed not bad. But back on topic - I'd wager the new FMIC would beat the new SMIC.
  15. Disagree there. But it's fair & valid point on the condition of the SMIC. In my experience, when I fitted my FMIC on my T61 my duty cycle shot way up from 80 odd % to 100% running the same boost. It was worn though. One way of testing would be - fit a brand new SMIC to your car. And blat it up and down the motorway for say 30 minutes. Monitor the charge temps & test it for heatsoak. Then fit a FMIC (probably with a new bumper) ... and then do the same. But horses for courses as they say.
  16. So, a T61 / Hybrid TT road car would make more or less power with a SMIC than a FMIC ?
  17. LOL! For sure John. The JUN Supra was an extreme example. But that car has 1 thing in common to Tricky-Ricky and Wez's. They're both running non-standard turbo's! Definately, there are pro's & con's to a FMIC. But if you have single blower on there .. why would you want a SMIC to be it's bottle-neck ?
  18. Because him and his family are emigrating to Australia.
  19. I didn't say they wouldn't work. But the FMIC will provide you with more power. When I got my car dynoed at SRR. Even Charlie said to me - that you'd make more power with a FMIC.
  20. I think I would agree with the spool up you mentioned. I would expect charge temps to be lower with a FMIC (Like the Greddy 3row) so thus have denser air going into the intake. This might seem obvious but the stock SMIC -I think- is obviously fully capable on stock turbos. But when you start fitting Hybrids or even a single - I personally think you need to upgrade the IC. If FMIC's weren't necessary at levels of modification - then the Jap GT racing like the JUN - wouldn't bother fitting their car with FMIC.
  21. Looks like Dan Turner is taking a leaf out of a "certain ex-trader"'s (can't think who that could be!) book on - legal action! Personally, I reckon if Dan is threatening you mods by going legal - ban him from trading on the BBS.
  22. Stock is better because the air filter is boxed up. The air being sucked in will be colder, as opposed to a filter completely exposed to a hot engine bay. If you really want a filter like the HKS - then (I think) the Apexi is a good one but box it up in a heat shielded box.
  23. It's still going to allow shit to pass into the engine. Can't be good whether it's on a Supra or a Nova. Go back to stock.
