From my post #65, mines died. Struggled to find another one off the shelf easily. But got a Duracell Advance DA45 with 5yr warranty. My battery is the much smaller Type 156 with T3 small terminals. Eurocar parts £55 inc VAT.

When I spoke to EBC (not mentioning anything about what discs I had) they immediately recommend the Yellowstuff for the higher braking efficiency.

Hi Chris, and thanks. I've had 2 sets of your pads for the Supe with no issues and I have slotted discs as well. I Don't know if its the extra weight, rolling circumference or what, but the difference is staggering, so much so I wasn't happy driving the Volvo. We'll see how these last.....

UPDATE. A slight change as a few people slated EBC so thought I’d be a cautious. Still fitted the EBC Ultimax Slotted Brake Discs and Motul RBF 600 fluid but went for a bespoke pad that I use on the Supe which have been fine. On this though they were dire. They felt so bad I took the car back to the garage to see if there was a problem. I had to stomp on the brakes. They did get marginally better, although they should have been fine from the off. After several hundred miles later they still had no bite whatsoever and I had to press a lot harder for them to do anything and they gave no feel either. It really did make the car terrible to drive. I have now gone with my gut and fitted EBC Yellowstuff yesterday. What a difference! Better than OEM from cold and have so much more bite when pushed a bit and with a good feel to them. I’ll see how they perform in the coming weeks/months, but so far I am very impressed indeed – very impressed. Some cars may suit them others may not, but question those slating them as these are bloody brilliant. Highly recommended so far. I'll be using these on the Supe for sure.

Sorry, link does work, but not on a Windows phone! I stand corrected! Crikey, I never appreciated they were that big. I would have always put VW and Ford in front.

Link not working?

No, but not every company is the best or the biggest (which doesn't mean the best) (AP is Brembo btw) Toyota isn’t the biggest or the best car manufacture but we’ve all got one. Quote: “The EBC range is now the largest of any brake manufacturer in the world (and I now that doesn’t mean it’s the best, or even good). EBC Brakes now employ 400 people worldwide and enjoy an annual turnover in excess of 100 million Euros with all of its products made in its UK or USA manufacturing plants.” http://ebcbrakes.com/articles/dangerous-cross-drilled-rotors/ I’m not trying to defend EBC as I’m going in eyes open (maybe with a bit of grit shoved in there for good measure ) I’ve paid my money and taken my choice. They're not some tin pot outfit, or some unknown or fake stuff off eBay and feel they ‘should’ be a reasonable alternative. Obviously I hope I haven’t bought a load of hardened dung to try and stop me and my family, but in my mind a reputable company, which EBC is, shouldn’t be producing the level of quality that you're pertaining they do. Reviews of them on SUVs seem good. But hey let’s see and I’ll truthfully let you know how I get on. If they’re crap, they’re crap and I’ll say they’re crap
-
Yes that is true to a degree, but given the size of EBC I'm struggling to comprehend the dire performance you are saying these are. Anything off eBay is bought at risk imo.
-
Yup, that's pants! I'll be astounded if anyone makes pads that bad, as I can't its possible but I'll have to wait and see.
-
Worse than stock for starters.
-
That's a better opinion, thank you. What made them so bad? Feel, no bite, not progressive, they gave up, did they fail, over heat? Or all of the above!

Hi Chris, That's what I just wrote here!! http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?321340-EBC-Green-and-Red-Stuff-–-for-a-Volvo
-
Were they new, were genuine? I'm sure EBC don't make that fall apart at a moments notice, so I'm afraid I'm a bit sceptical. EBC wouldn't have been going so long if they made crap? They might not be the best, but I'm guessing they'll be 'ok'. I've spent my money to find out, so at least I can be the guinea pig for you I'll have to have a word with Chris Wilson and get him to make some pads for Volvos, which I believe is his daily drive???

Your views all come in too late I'm afraid, so I'm committed, but thank you I'm not braking on the corners
-
Thanks guys. I have just bought some this morning first thing, so its too late now. Reviews in the US on SUVs are good and they're more than acceptable in the cold, but these on heavier cars as intended. I value your opinions, so let see how we get on. I reckon they maybe different but they cant be sh1t can they....... I've had friends using Green Stuff an they like the feel of them, being quite progressive, but that's not on a 2.2T car towing another 1.5T. I'm not abusing them like on a track day, but want an improvement without busting the bank, so lets see how we get on. Cheers guys

I swapped from Jspec to UK callipers as the Jspec we no where up to the job. This is/was the best thing I did on my car. Far better than BPU. I use DBAs Stage 6 4000 slotted discs (PDF 9) http://www.dba.com.au/ with CW Fast Road Pads, braided lines and RBF600 fluid and the package works phenomenally. Use every day in very cold weather is no problem at all. No noise whatsoever, and no excessive dust – just the same, if not less than my road car - probably not driving it hard enough!! Track days they need heating up, as expected, and have sustained numerous abuse from 160+ with no let up all. With regards to EBC, I’m just about to try them on my Volvo XC90. Friends have had them on smaller cars and have liked them and reviews in the US on their SUV’s all come up good (maybe a bit of noise to begin with when they changed just the pads). So I wouldn’t knock EBC, but I’ll let you know how I get on with them. They wouldn’t have been going so long if they were crap. 3.pdf 6.pdf 7.pdf 9.pdf

The CO was just 0.008 in the end btw.

Has anyone had experience of the EBC stuff please? I’m looking at changing my brakes on my Volvo XC90 as they weren’t performing well after a few big hills in Devon and Cornwell towing a caravan. I’m only looking at Changing Discs, Pads and Fluid without going silly on cost. PADS EBC Green or Red stuff? I was just going to go with Green but reading their website they reckon Red would be better for heavy cars as Green wears quick. I don’t know if anyone has you found that? 15 odd years ago friends using Green and Red said the Green was great and work from cold and didn’t wear much, and Red took a bit of time to get to temperature and was noticeable for everyday use but great on track. EBC have had several improvements over the years so don’t know what they’re like now? EBC recommend Red for my requirement - I suppose that probably answers my question, but you cant beat advice from people that have used the stuff. Quote: Green stuff is not a hard and long lasting pad and drivers may find Green stuff last less miles on light Trucks and SUV than stock units which in our opinion are designed primarily to pass the warranty period but 6000 are a good quality pad replacement with medium dusting and good brake effect. For heavier faster cars and vehicles above 200bhp we strongly recommend Red stuff which does offer much less dust. Red stuff is only available for heavier and faster cars and does find its self at its best on slightly heavier cars. DISCS Looking at EBC USR Slotted Discs as they only have small swipes which I think would be a benefit for sustained braking. I wouldn’t want drilled holes especially for the money I’m looking at paying, and I don’t what anything looking stupid – the swipes are pushing TBH. FLUID Continentals ATE Type 200 DOT 4 race fluid so long as it’s ok for the ESP system. Otherwise it’s their SL6. Many thanks EBC USR Slotted Rotors.pdf EBC green stuff.pdf EBC red stuff.pdf ATE product info.pdf

ITS PASSED !! It was the O2 sensor. Thanks to Paul at Whifbitz for getting me a sensor quickly.
-
Could do but there's obviously a problem and would prefer to get it sorted
-
Much appreciated, thank you very much. For speed I've order an O2 sensor, so will know tomorrow. I'll you know, cheers!
-
Err, not good news. Still not passing. CO: 0.776 (need 0.3) - and not 7.8% as they originally said! Lambda: 1.029 (pass) Hydrocarbon: 44 (pass) They cant find any air leaks. I've asked them to check the 02 sensor, but do think that's probably the culprit?
-
Sounds like it might the bloody test centres equipment!! They had 3 cars fail one after each other, and then thought it might be their machine which was faulty as they just had their sensor replaced. They changed their sensor for another new one and hey presto, they all passed! Mines getting done again in the morning!! A right PITA. If it was the engine coolant temp sensor I think it would struggle starting when its hot, but it starts and runs perfectly, so fingers crossed.
