  1. This is the setup required to run a QSV however (open manifold, divided turbine housing).
  2. I got the H type compressor housing Gpro. Will indeed be interesting to compare dyno graphs. Did you go for a 6870 with a divided turbine housing?
  3. That smile looks very...... Erm....... 'Special' Welcome Aimie
  4. Ok fair enough J, you do have a point from a copyright perspective I guess. It is a matter of copying HKS's design. But if HKS made turbos which performed as well as Precision's units then I'd have one, but unfortunately they don't. However, HKS turbos were designed like this from the outset, whereas Precisions Turbos were not. I can't help but think that Precisions designers do know what they're doing and they designed their turbos like they did for good reason. I definitely wouldn't want to sacrifice performance and reliability for the sake of a noise I like, it would be stupid and counterproductive. I need someone who really knows their apples when it comes to turbo design (Chris Wilson or Lee P maybe?) to come along and advise on whether this mod would be likely to affect performance and / or reliability of the turbo.
  5. Does this 'whistle' sound louder than your T51 Lee? If so, my worry is it may get annoying.
  6. That's it Ric. I am worried that the novelty would wear off too, but could always revert back to the original compressor housing if that's the case. It wouldn't be an artificial sound though j, it really would make that noise for the same reason the HKS Turbos do lol. It's to do with making the anti surge section of the compressor inlet more like the HKS design, changing the way air enters it and so changing the noise.
  7. I see what you're saying J, but I don't agree entirely with your comparison. It's not 'faking' something completely like the example you mention (ie an N/A trying to 'pretend' to be a turbo). It's just changing the design specs to alter noise characteristics in order to mirror a similar product.
  8. Mine's a keeper too. As well as the fact I love it, I've got too much money invested in it now to sell for a reasonable return and I wouldn't have the heart to break it :-)
  9. Has anyone else seen or used one of these 'super spool' kits for Precision Turbos from the states?..... http://youtu.be/JcuRbVogshE http://youtu.be/SKUQ0dIUZQ0 The name is very misleading as the kit doesn't affect spool at all in reality. All it is, is a kit which transforms the spooling sound of a Precision turbo to give a similar sound to the 'jet engine' like wailing noise of a HKS turbo (like the T51R or T62). Here's the sound of a 2JZ with a HKS T62 fitted for comparison..... The kit consists of a new Precision compressor housing with the anti surge inlet machined out and a different one with a new design fitted. This new inlet channels air into the Turbo in such a way that changes the noise characteristics and makes them 'whistle' louder like HKS units. Think the kit sells for about $500. Personally, I love the sound of HKS Turbos, but they never seem to perform as well as Precision turbos power output or spool wise for any give size. This kit would appear to give you the option to have the best of both worlds, but I'm not sure if having one of these fitted would get annoying after a while noise wise or if it would detrimentally affect the turbo in performance or reliability. Apparently according to the manufacturers, neither are affected, but they are bound to say this whatever lol
  10. Thanks mate, means a lot, but all the credit should go to SRD really, they're the ones putting all the hard work in...... I'm just funding it lol
  11. Cheers for the info abtin. I'd like to try and get a genuine one with the TRD badge if I can, but this is a good alternative if none come up.
  12. On the lookout for a chromed or polished TRD strut brace like the one on Jamie P's car if anyone wants to sell one.
  13. Cheers Kaan I'm sure Lee will work his normal magic and get things to fit fine Matt :-)
  14. Also, forgot to add...... Lee has been test fitting the Manifold and waste gates..... Waste gates sit a bit too close to brake lines for comfort, so will be changing master cylinder for a LHD unit as per Lee's advice.
  15. Cheers Matt, I'm chuffed with them. Hopefully they stop as good as they look :-)
  16. That's right Stevo, it had D2 8 pots on the front and K-sport 4 pots on the rear with 356mm discs all round. Plan was to have the car finished for the Summer, but that may have changed now. Just waiting for some news back from SRD about a few things and then build may be taken a lot further than was originally planned, which will obviously take more time. Either myself or Lee will update as things develop, so watch this space :-) - - - Updated - - - Cheers Luc
  17. Quick update....... First of all, got a tasty Brembo big brake setup which is the same as is used on the Mercedes McLaren SLR and SL55 AMG. 8 pot fronts with 14in discs and 4 pot rears. Dropped them straight off to Lee at SRD and was a bit worried at first they wouldn't fit because of my 3 piece split rim design....... Good news is, Lee has test fitted them and they fit fine PHEW! Lol. They will be given a refurb now before final fitment. Also, Lee has now fitted my TRD diff into the casing and tidied the casing up.
  18. Cheers Matt, good to meet you today grateful for all your help getting the brakes packaged up. Stay in touch dude
  19. Nice! Could be interested in this for my other half when it's finished if it stays N/A. Would be cool to have 2 wide body Supra's in the family :-)
  20. I thought same as this ^ If that's the case, nice purchase and Welcome :-) I like the TS GT300 wide body cars and I'd definitely have considered Paul's car if I didn't have mine.
  21. I've gone with a 1.00AR divided housing for my 6870 (for built 3.0l) on Lee's and Reid's recommendation.
  22. As some of you may know, my car is at SRD at the moment and is having a new Turbo setup fitted. It's having a Precision 6870 fitted on a Whifbitz twin waste gate manifold with Turbosmart 40 mm waste gates and screamer pipes. Now, I like loud, but I'm now a little worried how this setup will sound. My old GT47 twin wastegate setup had only one of the gates on a screamer with the other routed back into the down pipe and that sounded great. I've listened to lots of youtube videos of Supra's with screamers and some IMO sound great...... While others IMO sound rubbish (more like a blowing exhaust rather than a ripping sheet metal noise)..... I might be wrong, but the ones I don't like the noise of all seem to be cars running lower boost levels, which I guess causes the wastegate to open earlier in the rev range (as required boost level is reached sooner), meaning that the screamer pipe is 'active' for longer rather that just coming in nearer the top of the rev range when the car is flat out and exhaust gas flow is at it's highest (making the ripping sheet metal noise I like). Also, with cars running lower boost and the wastegate opens earlier, the sound from the screamer pipe seems to come in like a switch has been flicked to turn it on, rather than fading in seemingly naturally like in the cars running higher boost levels..... I'm weird I know lol Can anyone show me any sound clips / videos of a Supra running a twin screamer pipe setup like my new one, so I can get an idea of what it will sound like please?
