If you take it to a garage they can do a compression test on the engine to ascertain if its the head gasket or not. Also they can do a chemical check on the coolant i think to see if there are hydrocarbons, indicative of HG failure.

Clutch? My old mazda used to do that, needed new clutch. It was supposed to do that in reverse apparently though, so you couldn't put it in accidently

Just noticed you in Surrey, these guys fitted mine: http://www.caralarmuk.com/ Very good prices and their installs are absolutely amazing, ask for a guy called Minesh. I'm sure they can sort out your problems, and they get recommended everywhere. He fitted my Clifford and its just like its a stock alarm, never had a problem with it

Thats just poor, mind you, I've never heard a good word about gap security. An alarm is only as good as its installer.
