I have a strange query about the boost on my 95UKTT. If I put my foot down in any gear and at an rpm below about 4000, the boost goes up to about .6-.8bar, then as soon as I hit 2500rpm or so, drops back to .3bar, before then building up with the revs, until it's back to about .7-.8 >4000rpm. Have you written this correctly? below about 4000 the boost goes to .6-.8 bar then as soon as I hit 2500. .3 bar at 2500 is correct isn't it. regards

Fitted Super Dragger. What the F......
Brian Jackett replied to Brian Jackett's topic in mkiv Technical
I am using Super but I do have water injection which will keep temp down. I really don't want to put a CAT back, I think the only option would be to put in a restrictor. Chris seemed to think 1.4 is ok, and also Mr Branners sees no probs. I am getting a slight miss fire sometimes on full boost, but not always. I don't want to blow the engine but I do like the power increase. I keep going out to it and taking it round the block, 10 miles up to Brands Hatch and back. Its such a giggle, I only really ever experienced this with bikes and trikes. I love it regards -
Fitted Super Dragger. What the F......
Brian Jackett replied to Brian Jackett's topic in mkiv Technical
I have got C Wilson down pipes, he has suggested returning the middle pipe and he will weld in a restrictor. I managed 1.5 today, earlier the second turbo stopped working, but luckily a vacum pipe had just come off. I don't know why my Jap TT is boosting so high, it was as far as I am aware standard from the JIC. I really do have a different car now, I never realised that it would make that much difference. John, I have water injection running so that should keep temps down. P.S. I was going to do another track day but I will leave it to next year now, after I have put on bigger brakes and CW suspension. Brakes now feel like I have got push bike rubbers. I could never control that on the track with the existing brakes and suspension. regards All regards Brian -
Fitted Super Dragger. What the F......

I have just spoke to him and he said that 1.4 PSI is ok, as I have water injection to keep temp down. I am guessing it is the increase in temp that causes a problem regards -
Fitted Super Dragger. What the F......

Ok, just kept up with a big sports bike. It is amazing, shame I might have to put a cat back in. Who can check the air fuel ratio regards -
What is all that about, fitted Super Drager last night and went for a test run. What! Found a straight bit of road and floored it. God it moves but at 4,000 rpm and the second turbo kicks in, it does at 1.4 bar, most of the times it span the back wheels in the dry. ANd it is an Auto. It is amazing, but already I feel the stock Jap import brakes are now not good enough to stop the car and it is so hard to control the car. I am sure I will get use to it, but surely you do not need to do anymore engine mods to a car with the cats and a super dragger fitted. It seems a monster now. Got to modify the suspension and brakes I think then I will have a very interesting track car. P.S. is 1.4 bar to high. I think I need to fit a boost controller. PB FCD controller works fine no fuel cut at 1.4 bar. Excellent regards Brian

Oh, I assumed they were oil filled. Probably shims, I am sure someone will be able to tell me exactly how they work. Sounds like at least they are adjustable, and may explain them being noisy as I have never had them adjusted and have thrashed my car arround the race track 3 times now. regards
-
My tappets are a little noisy at tick over but not cam worn noisy. I know the tappets on the SUpra and most other cars are oil filled so they are automatically adjusted. Changing the Oil usually helps but I did this two track sessions and 2,000 miles ago. I am using synthetic oil, perhapes it does need changing again! Any advise. regards

Ok, I will give an Auto MKiii a race on the track. What I mean is driving an Auto MkIII is not the same as a MKIv Auto. Does the MKiiii have manu over ride? regards
-
I guess driving an Auto MKIII is not the same as an Auto MKIV. Sorry I am not saying that an Auto is better then a manual. That is an individuals preferences. All I am saying is that on the track I only ever use two gears and with the Auto set in Manu an O/D off you can have engine braking. Please no threads on Auto v Manual that is just up to each individual taste. It is fun at track days showing the power of the Supra and then people see it is an auto. regards
-
On the track days I have done I see no advantage in having a manual. All the track speed is done using 2nd and 3rd selecting Manu and o/d off does this. When you approach the turn and you need to slow down then pull the stick to 2nd. As you accelerate out of the bend and onto the straight change up to 3rd at 6k. I have raced at brands and donington and have never needed 4th. The fastest I have gone on the straights at donington is 115 MPH. The only different thing with the auto is if you select second at too fast a speed it will change down when the speed of the car has slowed a bit from braking. This can feel a little weird and very very dangerous in the wet ( I have not raced in the wet). But as you get better at track days you will select 2nd when the car is ready. P.S. I was killing many many cars on the track all of course manual. When I take people out in the Supra on the track most comment on the speed of the Auto and cannot believe the performance. Of course some cars killed me but most were track cars only on slicks. They go home on a trailer, I just drive out of the gates and drive home. regards

Just put them as high as you like and gradually lower them until you do not get flashed any more. (Top tip) I have just put a new front spoiler on and mine are the lights are so low I can drive around with main beam on and not get flashed. regards

Sorry I did not read your post fully. You have replaced the caliper already. No idea then sorry
-
Dust cover probably worn and dust has got down the side of the piston. I had one go on a XR2. I just replaced it with a new one, but you should be able to repair it with a kit. regards

Just done Donington track day yesterday. And the Water Injection is a brilliant tool. I raced around the track with it switched off and I felt the car after a while loose a bit of performance and when I returned to the Pit the car was very hot. Switched on the water injection and Wow no loss of performance and when returnng to the pits a much cooler engine. Also with no cats the performance is much better Get in touch with Chris Wilson and buy water injection regards

What if I cut out the back exhaust boxs
Brian Jackett replied to Brian Jackett's topic in mkiv Technical
I am considering the suspension kit from Chris Wilson, which lowers front by 30mm & 15mm at rear. This suspension has been developed by Chris for the Supra, which apparently gives soft ride at slow speed and hard ride at fast. To do with damping in the shocks. All for £1200 +£100 for fitting. regards -
I have a track day this Monday and my HKS super dragger will not be here in time even though I ordered it Months ago. I have removed the CATS and I am desparate to have more power on Monday. My question is: If I cut out of the rear section the two back boxs so all I am left is the rear jap spec box would it work. Or would it be too noisy. I would replace the rear boxs with metal exhaust flexie hose to re join the two pipes. (please no threads on flexie hose, I have used this before and it would well last a track day). This should give me more power, but would the rear exhaust silence it enough. Your thoughts. P.s. I want to do this tomorrow so any help would be good. regards

Getting C02 gasses down for the MOT
Brian Jackett replied to Brian Jackett's topic in mkiv Technical
Also it would be good if ever a spot check was done by the police you could also pass the Co2 test. I don't know if the Police can do this spot check but you never know... Pete, are you going to build something regards -
Getting C02 gasses down for the MOT
Brian Jackett replied to Brian Jackett's topic in mkiv Technical
I thought putting the Cats back every time would not be as simple as flicking a switch. -
Did it on my own with a non return bleed tube, but better if you can find some one to help, unlike me - Billy no mates. I used a racing high boiling point fluid supplied from Chris Wilson approx £70 THis is advice Chris Wilson gave me along with order of bleed: Right Front, LF, RR, LR use full slow pedal presses, allow to return faster. Keep reservoir at least quarter full at all times, you should see the colour change as fresh fluid comes out of bleed nipples. Don't over tighten the nipples, they don't need swing on regards

Ok, Ok, just wondered. It was a long while ago. And I like girlie cheap knicker elastic. regards
-
If they have shaved a bit off the wheels then it may not be possible to balance the wheels correctly. Very worrying regards
-
Years ago I remember seeing lowering kits which clamped your coil springs together to lower the suspension. Can you still get these and are they suitable for the Supra jap spec. regards
-
Mine changed when I had the Cruise control changed to work over 70mph. regards

Do you think it would be possible to add an electronic device to the Supra that changed the fuel mapping to be very very lean for the MOT. Something that the car would not run very well but fine for tick over at the MOT. This device could be temp fitted for MOT or installed all the time and you simply switch it on. Perhapes Pete could build something. Or does the FCD have the ability to be twiddled with to give the same result. Pete are you out there regards
