  1. I considered one, but ended up going for the Corvette. The build quality is even worse than Corvette, and the handling isn't best but there is something about them. I think my C5 is wider than the Viper, but they are both big cars on the smaller roads here. Don't be concerned about LHD, you soon get used to it.
  2. If it is a US import, run it through carfax.com. Also, there is a couple of guys (gene culley & sponge_vette) on http://www.corvetteforum.com that can run it through GM's internal system. It gives you all the options it came with, as well as recalls and a detailed service history. HPI has always been the one i've used in the UK, although it is getting pricier.
  3. Good thread The 'issues' involved in going single was one of the main reasons I sold my Supra. It was, and still is, hard to know who to trust with your beloved car and a serious wodge of cash. Had the route to single been easier, I would no doubt have gone down that route, but there is too much misinformation and cowboys about for me to have thrown 'X' thousand pounds at a rapidly depreciating 14 year old car. My car has now been singled by the new owner, he has the knowledge and facilities needed to do the work himself - I didn't. It seems that most the decent singles on here are done by people who are happy with a spanner, seriously know their stuff and can't be sold down the river by 'tuners' desperate to get the next car though the door. I don't regret going the big NA route instead of big single
  4. Probably a 6 speed Corvette C5 with a questionable history. I would then replace that with another Corvette C5, black, manual with Z51 suspension
  5. My neighbours have an Auris 2.2, he didn't seem to find it boring when it got stuck on WOT two miles from home. It came back with bright red discs and smoke pouring from the arches
  6. Oddly, my LHD Corvette has the handbrake on the right! When I took my Mum out in it, she went to grab the handbrake in a panic when I gave it some welly I considered a 350z cabrio, but it didn't do much for me. Too 'jelly mould' and I would find it hard going to a car slower than my Supra.
  7. Yeah, it is a good mag. Did you spot the very brief mention of the Supra? A JGTC Supra was the last car the official Bugatti Veyron driver raced before retiring. I don't like the T1, it looks like an expensive kitcar to me just seems pointless.
  8. I'm tempted by a C5 Z06 to replace mine, 405 bhp sounds nice It is only a fair weather car though, so i'd probably end up with a mildly modified Coupe (targa-top). Also, its a big car to drive fast on the narrow roads around here, so I probably wouldn't get the benefit from a Z06.
  9. Corvettes haven't had a big block V8 since 1974 The aluminium small block LS series have been in Corvettes since the C5 came out in 1997. It has gradually got bigger, from 5.7 (LS1) to 6.2 (LS3) for the 2008 non Z06 Corvette. The latest Z06 has the 7.0 LS7. There is a 6-700bhp supercharged version due in 2009 (LS9), in a super fast Corvette called the Blue Devil or SS depending where you look
  10. As above, saw a red Supra parked at Morrisons in Burntwood on Tuesday evening. Anyone? It had a club sticker in the window.
  11. It'll go in, as long as you don't have more than one passenger. Even then, you will have to get them to sit behind you. I'm sure i've fitted a 7'6" in before. You have to put it in through the boot, straight across the back and passenger seats. Get a fish My 6' fitted in easily.
  12. Should be picking it up next weekend, so i'll sort out some pics then. I am so chuffed to have got one, I was very close to buying an S2000 until the Corvette idea popped into my head. I saw a load in California and convinced myself it was the right car. I thought i'd have a long wait for a decent 6 speed, but have ended up with a last year Commemorative C5 within a couple of days of looking
  13. Sounds like you are treating it well The delivery is different with a big NA Lump, not saying it is better just different. I could whack a supercharger or turbo on it if I get bored I was about to PM you actually, I found the spare keys in a drawer yesterday. Can you send me your address I heard a few in the US, one with a supercharger nearly ran me over If I decide to keep it for a bit, it will be having an exhaust and maybe varioram induction.
  14. They are nice, I was going to get a C6 but I got this one for a good price. I should be able to make a bit on it when I sell it, and maybe go for a C6 then. It would have to be a manual for me, which limits my options a bit. You can pick C6's up for the mid to high 20k now, less if you import one from the states. You would honestly never know from driving it, they aren't the same as the ones on my Navara Thanks, that is what convinced me in the end. It is so smooth cruising along in stupid low revs, then you press the throttle and all hell breaks loose I was all set to get an exhaust for it, but it sounds amazing without one. Yeah, I agree. I found myself wandering a bit, or sticking too close to the curb but i'll get used to it. It will be odd driving abroad now though
  15. Cheers for the advice, Brian. I've always had a thing for Corvettes, so it would have been rude not to. I'm expecting the usual comments regarding the handling. The way it went round bends at silly speeds was impressive, huge grip without so much as a squeel. It is still on the run flats at the moment, putting proper tyres on should help. I'll be on the corvette forums once I get it, the seller is on holiday for over a week He gave me a copy of the Ecklers catalogue to keep me occupied though
  16. Cheers. I can't see LHD being a problem, i'll get used to it.
  17. Dell Axim X30 Pocket PC 624mhz Processor Windows Mobile w/Outlook 512 mb Mini SD Card Wifi and Bluetooth Tomtom Windscreen mount kit Desk Cradle USB lead/charger Mains Charger Leather Dell Case Aluminium Case Comes with Instructions and Windows disk. It is about 3 years old, in vgc. Needs a copy of Tomtom Navigator and bluetooth receiver and it is a good future proof SatNav system. Looking for £50+, please PM or email me.
  18. I went to look at a Corvette C5 on Friday. It was a 54 plate Le Mans Commemorative Edition Coupe (targa) , 6 speed manual with 9k on the clock, in Le Mans Blue. As much as I loved it, it would have been very stupid to buy it - thirsty V8, needs new tyres and a service, even bigger than the Supra, LHD... So, I bought it The acceleration was unbelievable, it felt much quicker than my BPU Supra even though it shouldn't be. It was savage through the gears and kept going, could be the extra torque I guess. Sounded rather nice as well Handling wise, the current owner scared me to death demonstrating its grip at 110 leptons. I'm intending to keep it for the summer, then sell it on again. That is what I told the girlfriend anyway Its going to be a long couple of weeks until I can pick it up. It looks pretty much like this, but with the Z06 Chrome Alloys: http://images.craigslist.org/010109010210010302200706033677525435af6005c1000420.jpg
  19. Insurance wise, the US import C5 is £150.00 a year less than my Supra despite being worth over twice as much. There are some very competitive specialist places for LHD cars.
  20. I've always loved Corvettes, you can't beat the big V8 and they are rare. I've got first refusal on an 04 Le Mans C5 targa, I should be going to look at it this weekend. Can't wait I prefer the looks of the C5, but gather the C6 is the better car. If I don't get this one I might consider a C6. Has to be a manual for me though which limits the choice a bit.
  21. I was told to get a Honda, I got 4.5hp IZY self propelled one on ebay for a good price. Brand new and warrantied, I can find the details if you want? It seems ok, for a mower.
  22. No, I didn't realise it is only £25 more. I'm not that tight I thought the tax related to year of manufacture rather than import? My Supra was imported in 1999 but had 'L' plates as it was manufactured in '93. I'll call the DVLA. I might go for an '02 in that case, some 2001 C5's had issues with faulty piston rings.
  23. Cheers, I think i'll be going for a March 2001 at the latest so I won't have to pay ridiculous tax on it only to have it sat in the garage most the time. A low mileage 2000/2001 is well within budget and I could afford to chuck on an loud exhaust as well
  24. The rarity does appeal to me, i've just got an insurance quote for £324 which is nice. The 6 speeds are hard to find here, there is a lot in America though
  25. I know a couple of people who've had Alfas, they didn't really impress me and weren't particularly reliable I'm not a fan of SLK's, the only ones I see around here are driven by middle aged ladies wearing too much make-up and en route to the golf club for lunch I've found a couple of nice 6 speed corvettes, targa tops, in the US. I'm out there in a couple of weeks so will try to take one for a spin If I can't stretch the budget, i'll probably look at an S2000 to mess around in over the summer.
