They told me it was a new clutch but the clutch had actually been welded (Not sure why) and all the bearings were knackered. So the clutch wasnt replaced and in fact theyve bodged the car royaly to stop any noises for a while and now that im back home the parts have started wearing again and causing noise! So what can i do. I thought with garages they have a legal obligation to sell a roadworthy useable unbodged car? Not really sure what to do except speak to citizens advise and trading standards.

Hi all. well ive had my supr in at the workshop for a few days now and the mechanics have found a few expensive and shitty bodges on the flywheel and clutch!!!! Basically the garage i bought it from said they replaced the clutch when i went to pick it up, a week after i first viewed it.. hmmm. So what have they done,.... well firstly the flywheel has had an angle grinder to it. I wouldnt of believed it myself but ive seen it. It looks like the clutch has been broken in the past, damaged the flywheel and theyve skimmed it down with an angle grinder to make it flat again (warped possibly).. So problem 1, I need a jspec flywheel for a mkiv Supra.... let me guess £1000 yeh???? Next the reaction arm is knackered as the bushs have broken off causing noise. Ive been told i can have nylon bushs made at no expense from the garage but they may cause noise but maybe not... so how much is a reaction arm... £300???? And finally the supposidly new clutch will need replacing. £250? So overall its been a very expensive trip to the garage. They said if i can source the parts they'll fit them and my warranty ive got with a company will pay for all the labour but not the parts. Does anyone know where to get these bits from and is it worth spending more and getting uprated stuff like lightened flywheel and sports clutch? Thanx

As above. Now that the supras in for clutch and gearbox work i might as well replace the clutch release bearing as its making a very small amount of noise. Is this A Toyota only part?

The garage is Dunnings Automatics on the Granby in Estate Weymouth. Ive never heard anything bad about their work and my G/f's dad takes his Escort Cosworth there and it always gets well looked after. I went in there today and they were very understanding and said they'd do everything in their power to get my Warranty to pay out which they should tbh. Tbh i thought the clutch was fine. Just very tight with no slip what so ever. The garage owner i bought it from said he put an Exedy Clutch in it which he described as a No slip cluch but tbh im no mechanic and he could of been lying to me! I guess i'll find out by the end of the day! Thanx for the replies peeps I really appriciate it.

What he said! Yes i do trust the mechanic. his business always has good feedback and he does the job properly. Im not 100% sure that the clutch was changed although i was told it was an aftermarket clutch that was fitted. Ill update tomorrow when i hear more news! thanx

Anyone got 1 in good condition. I need to replace mine and might be easiler just to buy 1. Any link to breakers that may have one would also be a big help. Thanx

Well i took my Supra in to get the gearbox/clutch looked at because it was crunching/making weird noises and now ive found out why![sAD][/sAD] Basically ive got knackered bearings in the gearbox but until they strip it tomorrow they cant be 100% that is what is wrong with the gearbox. Also the bloke reckons that the Clutch (Which is new) is also knackered in some way because when he drove it it was too agressive and heavy! So where do i stand then. Well i have a third party warranty that will cover me for £500 worth of work which is good except it may not cover the bearings in the gearbox (Might cover labour though)! If the clutch is new why should i need to replace it? Surely something else would be wrong? If the warranty won't pay out enough or anything at all would it be easier to get hold of a second hand gearbox and do a direct replacement? Help is very much appriciated! Thanx

Just read this and im sorry to hear the sad news! Don't let him get away with it. Its bad enough that you've lost your Friend let alone the money incurred because of his reckless driving. Its very disapointing that the police can't prosecute him themselves.
