I have looked at a couple of aem ecu's for friends who have them but i would never want to map one fully just because every aem ecu i have been asked to look at has ended up being faulty and 2 of them were injector drivers which had failed. I would not want to commit myself to a ecu that i dont trust in reliability. To be fair to dan turner who has had alot of engines go south when he has been mapping them recently i would partial say that i bet some of the incidents were due to the ecu's bugs. In my mind its dave rowe at motec although he is a hard man to get hold of as constantly round the world mapping, when you get him to get only 1st class. And his prices are great He is the man who also mapped the crd supra

Sound like it is a PRO spec version which has ignition cut insteed of fuel cut and launch control built in. Is very rare and only know one other supra with one and that is supradibbs. All supra powerfc are ap engineering tho but not many are pro spec The hand controller is useful for making quick changes and for monitoring the sensors part of the engine like air temp, water temp and knock levels but should never be used to map a car. The knock warning works brilliant on the 2jzgte and as soon as i ever hear any det though cans it shows up on datalogit. What i then do is dial in the level of knock to light up the warning light in middle of dash if det ever happens. On most other engines this part of the powerfc is not always great as can pick up alot of ghost knock. If you ever did want a commandor nearly any toyota powerfc commandor works with the supra ecu

Sorry guys i dont touch Aem For whats its worth i would go for a link g3 plus on a manual supra but not for a auto at mo see here http://www.linkecu.com/products/engine-management/Wire-In/linkplusg3folder/linkplusg3

Sorry took long to reply but yes ian is right on most innovate products the yellow wire is 0-1v output and the brown is a 0-5v analog output. As out of the box 0=7.35 afr 5=22.39 afr Dial into ecu input settings and bingo

Thanks for pm muffleman Have you just tried running the turbo of actuator pressure and see that it is not anything to do with aem controlling it
-
I wouldn't say coward approach ian i would say thats about right on a emanage as its doesn't have the control of standalone. On all pm's i have had about piggyback mapping i have sent your way as well due to you knowing more about how the stock ecu fights the piggybacks

All depends on air temp, airflow etc but normally its pretty spot on due to me setting up the air temp correction options

I Agree Chris mapping on a engine dyno is the best way forward and is alot quicker but the rest of what you said i dont agree with one bit espically your wording of "Dreamers" Some of the best tuners in the world i know from Motec pref to map a car on road over a rear wheel dyno. In a dyno cell everything is alot hotter and the load is totally different to what the engine will experience on the road. The car will always run slighty richer on a dyno due to airflow issues and you will never be able to get in as much advance due to the temps being greater. This is where a standalone is favoured due to the air temp correction pulling timing at set points in the map where the temps have risen. A mixture of both i find works best but some customers do not like to have to pay £75+ for hiring the dyno for an hour. And i would like to add again, how many engine do you hear about going bang when mapped on the road insteed of dyno. I dont doubt your knowledge chris with regards engines and suspension but i for one dont agree with 70% of what you have said in your first post

The way i normally work is to tune a car on the road and then for the silly speed stuff required at the end leave to when its on the dyno. Or if owner is happy and its quiet then do on road I have yet to find a dyno that can simulate the road load well enough to not need a tweak on the road and a car will always run richer on a dyno due to the airflow being alot less. I have seen cars that have been tuned by others on the dyno to 11.6 and then when on road run 11.8. Could you explain why. Trust me you hear det alot easier when on the road than when in a dyno cell I bring in the ignition slowly until i hear pre det than knock it back 1 degree in that load cell. As soon as i hear any pre det the hand goes up and the driver backs off. Also how many engine have you heard of going bang on the road while mapping against on the dyno

Hey muffleman Yes the facilities there are brill espcially the big fan, My intake temps were around 33 degrees on dyno and were 43 on road yesterday. They are not just a dyno that wants to get you on and off in no time. Allowed me to play with my ecu on dyno for a couple of runs and then finish off with a power run. Have mapped over 15 mr2's now bud of imoc and mr2oc The one i did yesterday was just a basic rev3 with a td05 turbo, damn small turbo but flows well for around 300 bhp. i got 308bhp out of it in end and 310 ftlb of torque. The main restristion was the downpipe being only just 2" lol

Thanks for nice words J Man do i want stuarts car, Was lovely inside out and at only 0.9bar it did pull well. 1st and 2nd gears in those cars are just great. Soooo much traction. Im looking forward to getting the boost up to 1.2 bar

Thanks for all the offers guys, I should have asked earlier. Was gunna give you a ring tony on sat but i dont like to ring people on weekends when there not working. I think we need to have a show down to who can drive it at oxford karting when i get back from holiday and lets hope its raining as loads more fun then Who's up for it

Also notice how the doluck hump has been removed now

Hey daryl been trying to get hold of you bud It made 428 rwhp THink im gunna need your help with driving my car mate for mapping as no one near me seems confident enough with the power. Cant wait to put yours on there. As feel alot quicker with the extra boost your running. only bad thing about mapping cars every day is you never get chance to finish your own

Well was mapping a mr2 this morning and decided to stay around for a dyno day the mr2 club were having at surrey rolling road. Got some nice figures out of car i had done and got involved with charlie in getting the most out of most the car by setting up controllers properly. Have to say the dyno was brill and the staff were superb. As there was some nice power figures flying around me and charlie decided to stick my supra on in its current low boost map to show what supras are made of. Managed to get a couple of run to tweak map slightly and set up avcr but was having problem with boost leak and slow spool and didn't have time to fix but at 1.2 dropping to 1.1bar got 508bhp and 454ftlb of torque. Torque was down due to slow spool but found leak when i got back to garage and now seeing alot more airflow and quicker spool times. Hopefully will get chance to finish my supra in high mode (1.4 bar) if weather gets better after my holiday ready for Surrey RR on here and would like to see 600bhp as was running a safe ign map today. Here is a pic on dyno and will try and get graphs up before i go on holiday this week. http://www.peterchaplin.co.uk/rrday/images/rr01jul07_055.jpg

Sorry to hear news jay but im sure michel will have it solved in a jiffy. Couple of questions bud Why on earth did you change from a innovate wideband to a slow AEM one. The innovates are top of the range, alot faster, more reliable (new versions) , prompt error codes when sensor has gone and not displaying wrong readings in this case. I could go on but just just puzzled
-
Glad your home safe mate. Things to check - That crank sensor is securely fastened into casing - The restiance of the crank and cam sensors are in range - wiring back to ecu is good - Check map sensor is in range also as the connector was always looking abit dodgy That you have PETROL in car lol

Cant mate im on holiday from tuesday

Recieved my fan shroud yesterday and the quality is superb. Good job bud. Word of warning to others tho watch your fingers on the edges they damn sharp but the stainless is great quality.

Does dan not do tweaking to idle and off boost then or does he just do WOT tuning
-
Jay have a slight play with the ignition timing when you are around 800rpm to get it smoother. Hard to say which way to go depending on your afr but normally want to advance it slightly this will get it to idle smoother. I can balance a 50p on my rocker cover at idle But on high power builds like yours i always tend to run the idle abit higher on Hot to keep the oil pressure up
-
I will be just using the dyno buddy not there services for mapping. Im mapping the car before hand then doing tweak while on dyno
-
Im heading to Surrey rolling road on sunday to use dyno so will report back on experience
