  1. You must have valid insurance, when tax and mot are both expired together you are permitted to drive to an MOT station, once MOT has passed you can then tax it. I printed this letter from the Police website and kept with me in case I was pulled over :- https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q360.htm Although the garages I use are all under 10 miles, I certainly wouldnt feel comfortable driving much further.
  2. You could have a look through http://cpuboss.com and compare the different ones available.
  3. It was part of the normal AEM software install, not a separate download, its been a long time since I used AEM software so it may have changed.
  4. From a quick search the Asus T100TA is basically a 32bit Intel ATOM based laptop with detachable keyboard, you should be able to install any normal Windows 32bit software on it including the AEM suite, it wont be the quickest machine but should be fine for monitoring the ECU. From memory, its been a while since I used the AEM software, it had a monitor app / function that let you setup a dash like screen, you could use that and build a layout however you want and have it auto launch. Correct, a USB to serial should work fine
  5. If you wrote your own software then there are many more options. You could use the AEM v1 telemetry stream which is used by their own gauge / display.
  6. Yes it would be possible, but some things worth thinking about. AEM software from memory only supports x86 Windows, so you would need a full on x86 based Windows tablet, nothing ARM based. AEM v1 is serial so you will need either a tablet that supports serial or a serial to bluetooth / wifi adapter, then you have to figure out how to get that working with the windows tablet and the AEM software, possibly through some virtual serial software that can map a serial from the AEM software to the wireless interface.

  9. Why is a flexfuel not viable. If you can get methanol for WI kit you could mix in the tank with flexfuel and not have all the extra WI kit to go wrong, I am guessing your ECU can support flexfuel, if not then obviously this is not an option

    Very nice matey
  11. Advances in technology now mean you can run a flexfuel sensor and suitable ECU and just pour some meth into your fuel tank for better gains
  12. Magnus Motorsports are an authorised Syvecs dealer http://magnusmotorsports.com
  13. Some Android tablets do allow serial over USB with the correct cable, its been a long time since I looked into it, if you can find one that allows / supports it you could then knock up an App that could decode the stream.
  14. Whats driving the screen? Is it a car PC that has a serial port, what OS is it running?
  15. Sounds interesting, what is needed for the swap?
  16. From memory I think some Race Technology products are able to work with AEM serial stream too.
  17. AEM v1 has telemetry output via RS232 which works with the AEM serial gauge, the datastream is pretty basic and easy to work with so doing building something wouldnt be that difficult. Many years ago (2008) I did knock up a display on an old Compaq iPaq
  18. One of the best sounding MKIV exhausts, only second to the Veilside Ti in my opinion GLWS

If going for an R8 wouldn't it be better to stretch to the V10 version?
  21. Stock OE disks over cheap drilled every time

Lets go wide on the budget, say £10k to £50K, what would people go for I am still driving around the LS430 that I picked up cheap with the help of LeeP, was purchased to pull the engine out but have just carried on using it, it is such a nice drive, quiet and effortless.
