  1. No.... she drives this And occasionally this
  2. She doesnt race, just does track days.... she enjoys it. Not a huge fan of driving the GTR, its just too quick for her
  3. Castle Combe does alot of Saturdays... Thruxton I go on Fridays because I prefer the type of cars and people that arrive.... Car enthusiats VS chavs Castle Combe tends to have a lot of track/race cars arriving, like Radicals, etc so you do need to a little more careful. My missus loves Thruxton, checks the days that the operate, might do weekends as well. Goodwood does AM and PM sessions (so half day) and they usually allow very limited numbers, not to mention limited numbers on track at the same time. Looking to book up for end of October.
  4. Well stated Thruxton organisers are very good... very friendly and helpful, but take a hard line with the rules of overtaking, etc. Which is very useful beginner days, I have done a few now and I still prefer there days the most (http://www.motorsport-events.com/).
  5. Why an actual event? I find it better to start slow and build up as the day progresses, you also dont want to be out for too long at once (concentration levels drop and things go wrong). Lots on the weekends as well....again, Silverstone is good for beginners (lots of run-off), Castle Combe not so beginner friendly (some big heavy impact walls pretty close to the track), Thruxton s beginner friendly, but noise restricted.
  6. That looks like Getak, if it is, you are lucky to be alive and Im very surprised he made a lap on the track only know of one white GTR with the aeromotive rear spoiler. Did the car have a personalised plate similar to "Getak"?
  7. What if we TP'd her house? Obviously she only thinks of a car as a tool
  8. Lets key her car and see what she thinks.... honestly just sounds like jealousy
  9. Love that video especially the first clip where its ass out onto the grass!! One hell of a car and driver!! That car is pretty much a WRC car with 900hp and nitrous oxide
  10. Completely agree (cant comment on other cars, as not owned)... My MX5 is 2002 and is solid.... you can still find good cars for decent money. I moved MeisterR coilovers for £600 (for the coils) and they are great on track found out yesterday that 5 clicks too soft on the rear makes the car VERY oversteery missus didnt like it, but ass out at 90mph was fun!! 8 clicks harder on the rear and it waited till 105mph to get the ass out (on the same corner).
  11. I have had my car for over 4 years, 33k miles, no warranty and my car has a relatively hard life (IE. lots of events and track days), but it is well looked after. I dont use dealers at all, independent specialists are the only way to go How much is a new TT gearbox from Toyota? How many people go out an buy a new one? Specialists fix them.... they are expensive though, parts for gearbox are not cheap Matts blue car is a different story all together, it was bought as a track car and has over 70k miles. I would be surprised if he hasnt passed 100 track days now. Anything else, please PM - lets keep this thread "clean"
  12. I had one.... last about a year. It heavy, decent(ish) power and was fun. Sold to fund MX5 and mods because missus wanted to start track days. There was a Z4 on track today, looked good, sounded lovely (aftermarket exhaust), not massively quick, but very planted and looked great whilst going round.
  13. Had an awesome day at Thruxton wth both GTR and MX5!! Had 2 friends, myself and my missus driving the MX5 today, it the most sessions and was more than likely the most fun out of everything. The GTR was immense with its new tyres
  14. Have to agree, would love one, but the worry of engines is too much. S2000 is great handling car as well and not very heavy either.
  15. All my cars on a multi car policy, works out very reasonable when the GTR is included. I used to buy track day insurance but the cost was getting silly... No trailor, car is road friendly and regular services and MOTs is quite useful in keeping the car up to scratch since I dont DIY it.
  16. So Im in "god tier" and "bad tier", hmmmm honestly hard to beat the MX5 for fun vs cost. Missus has finally suggested that it may be a little slow, so supercharger is being considered Be impressed if it makes it a full lap.... I could never bring myself to take something like that out, but 240z will be going onto track once complete
  17. S2000 is another that has a good chassis and engine, but parts are more costly
  18. I still reckon the MX5 is a good buy The FWD I think would be good to start with, but you would get board of it quickly. For me, if you are learning, it has to be RWD... I did look at a Honda CRX, cheap and Clio cups, mini coopers and Suzuki Swifts can be bloody quick once they are setup correctly. Can do half day sessions at CC and Thruxton I think.
  19. GTROC had a deal on the full circuit, but 92db limit on drive-by, so I was worried, everyone else knew they would not survive a lap. At least at Silverstone they are friendly and come have a chat about noise and ask you to short shift in certain areas. From what I have been told Brands is ruthless, black flag and go home.
  20. Not driven it, been passenger a few times.... Want to do the full F1 circuit, but noise regs for GTR worry me Thruxton, as above is a great little circuit, harsh on noisy cars again, Mazda passes easily at 80db and the GTR just makes it at 90db static. Lots of run-off and in the MX5 you are foot-flat for at least 1/2 the lap.
  21. Im slightly biased....... another vote for MX5 Here is mine at Castle Combe And with the missus driving Yes its slow, but the handling is great in these cars and they are just so much fun to chuck into corners with very little regard for the speed and whether it will exit the corner In all seriousness, its a great car on track, usually the slowest thing out there, but wow can it play catch up in the corners! Mel managed to overtake an MR2 at Castle Combe exiting Quarry We visit Castle Combe (a little scary considering lack of run-off in places), but still a love track and Thruxton quite often (pop in if you are in the neighborhood). In fact we are at Thruxton tomorrow with the MX5 and the GTR. MX5 has only got coilovers, seats, harnesses, rear half cage, some minor brakes bits and wheels/tyres done. Still testing the suspension, pictures were road settings so still a fair bit of roll, but have some new settings to test for tomorrow which should get her cornering flat. I enjoy driving the MX5 on track just as much as the GTR... GTR is great for the fast aspect and the MX5 is great for learning the track, RWD and to just have a bit of fun on track. EDIT Thruxton is £190 for the day open pit lane, fridays are usual empty and good fun Castle Combe is £190 for the day open pit lan, but can get busy
