Hi.
Syptoms, 2 weeks ago whilest on a very good South coast meet I noticed that I had lost boost and when I did put my foot down there was a louder than normal sucking/blowing noise coming from under the bonnet.
Whilest the car was stationary the above was not noticable, I limped home feeling pretty dejected.
I spent a few days doing all the normal checks, hoses off/split, going TTC, (no differance), so in the end I handed it over to the garage, .
After a few days they phoned me up to say they had found the problem, the EGCV actuator was not moving, they managed to get some pliers on it and initially it moved a couple of mm, with some "manipulation" they got it to move around 2 to 3 cm, took it for a spin and said it was now ok.
Got it home took it out only to find that it was exactly the same, phoned them up (obviously a little upset), they now say that they need it back in to strip it all down and take the EGCV actuator off and investigate further, at the same time put the turbos into a turbo shop to have them tested.
I have a few questions/worries that some of the more technical/ experanced members might be able to shine some light on.
For this work, not including any work on the EGCV actuator will cost £650, about right?
Is this a job that an average car D I Yer could do?
If the EGCV actuater is completely bust can I get hold of new ones? price?
Also I checked my peak boost on my Greddy electronic boost controller after it came back from the garage and it still read the same as it did before it went in (10 psi), surely if he thought he had fixed it and with a test run it should have shown 16 psi set max.
Any serious comments on this thread would be greatly accepted, sorry its so long.
Bob.
