  1. Yeah - all ours is unmixed, so it was only water that I had to taste. As for the baby food, I hope Adam's doesn't taste that bad as I make most of it!!!
  2. Took little Adam (9 months) through Gatwick last year and, although you're allowed to take food/fluids for babies over and above the 100ml limit, I had to demonstrate the fluids (Adam's water bottles) were safe by tasting a small amount of each in front of the security guard.
  3. Mine is going on sale this week. It's a stock '93 J-Spec 6-Speed TT. 110,000km on the clock. It's spent the last two days having a full fluids, filters, plugs and belts service at Phoenix including new cam belt. Mark himself has offered to vouch for the quality of the car if required. Looking for 8k. Don't think you'll find a better manual TT with a reputable recommendation at that price. Drop me a PM if you want any more info!

  5. A mate of mine had his scooby nicked and then used in an armed robbery. Was recovered afterwards without a scratch on it!
  6. I play chess on redhotpawn.com Good site, good interface, free to use. If you want a game, my ID is SnoozeUK
  7. Will do. Did you get tickets for the "last EVER Carter gig", announced for 2nd November? Sultans Of Ping are going to be supporting too!
  8. Yeah - I was thinking about going to that one, but had other plans tonight, unfortunately. Was a real fan of their early stuff - the first single, "Are You Blue Or Are You Blind", I bought on the day of release. It's still one of my favourites. Going to see a "secret" Carter USM gig tomorrow night, tho'! :D

    automatic?

Manual here. I prefer the driving experience of a manual over an auto. But that's really personal preference. For 99.9% of driving, the performance difference is totally insignificant.
  10. That's a whole lot of Jap cars, Tom! Maybe you need to try more German and Italian for comparison?

    Buying a Supra

I'm thinking about selling my car next month. It's a stock '93 (80k) J-Spec Manual TT. Looking for £8k. You're welcome to come have a look & I'll take you for spin - I'm in Guildford, so probably not too far away.
  12. Yeah - PayPal are total scum. They make the service attractive to consumers by making it cheap and easy to use, then rip off merchants big time.
  13. Oh - it'll get there, I expect. They're not pushing it too hard at the moment, but the service is pretty good and the API is dead simple to integrate with by the looks of it. But unless they do public-to-public transactions, it won't ever complete with PayPal. And remember that PayPal = EBay too, which is what drives most of the public-to-public transactions on the web. So they'll have to wait for GoogleBay (which actually wouldn't surprise me either!) until they compete with PayPal.
  14. Google Checkout? Yeah - that's there, checkout.google.com, but it's for internet vendors rather than just publicpublic payments I think.
  15. It's in the link there. Previously, you would have only been charged transaction fees for credit/debit card payments, not for Paypal balance transfers. With a premier account, you get charged for all transactions. Looks like it's 3.4%, not 2.9%
  16. I think they start charging transaction fees for premier accounts. 2.9% per transaction or something? Edit: yep - transaction fees. Differences shown here: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside&countries=EU
  17. You can see this sort of problem where (and I'm guessing here!) the website runs off a local database of ticket numbers separate to the ticket issuing database. If there is no "live" link between the databases, and issued ticket data only gets copied across to the website database every day, or every week, or something, you have a problem. If the data is only copied across on a timed basis, that means that your website is not really able to take payment for recently (same day) issued tickets, so you have to decide either: (a) you don't take payment for these "same day" tickets, and end up with lots of pi**ed-off, last-minute buyers, or (b) you take payment for anything and assume it'll tie up later on. Looks like they chose option (b). To make the solution slightly nicer, they should probably have implemented something to make sure that the ticket numbers that have been paid for actually DO turn up at some point, and to tidy up, refund, etc. if not. Anyhow - this is pure hypothesis - I've no idea how the Europark IT system is architected really - just trying to suggest that this sort of stuff often occurs because of badly thought-out system design, or sometimes because the designers have their hands tied completely by legacy systems - rather than it being deliberately designed to rip people off.
  18. errrr - you can't put A0551239 as the number - the field isn't big enough. Weird that it doesn't validate ticket numbers, though. Maybe the database only contains some of the ticket numbers, so they made the decision to assume anything that wasn't recognised just hadn't made it to the database yet?
  19. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnic_jerk Don't think there's a proven reason for it yet. A few theories abound, but nothing solid.

    new guy

Can't help you in Sussex, I'm afraid, but sometimes the good mechanics are worth a drive. I'm in Guildford, and mine always goes up to Phoenix in Watford. I have to then catch a train back through London to get home, then back again to pick it up after, but for the quality of service, it's more than worth the hassle, in my opinion. By the way, my Supra (stock, silver, J-Spec, TT, Manual) will probably be up for sale next month if you're still looking.

The rest (with the G at the end, for "Grey", I think) are ungrouped. So I imagine most non-specialist insurers just use the UK group 19 for all insurance calculations.
  22. Problem is that insurance companies data usually only covers UK models, which were all group 19, I believe. Not sure that imports are even grouped by the ABI.
  23. Agreed. The flipside of a competitive market is, of course, that there's a lot of cheap cr*p that gets produced too, with low enough prices to lure the unwary buyer. It's usually these types of devices that are tied to Windows Media Player. (a friend of mine recently bought a Goodmans 40Gb mobile video device 'cos it was £80. Heap of junk. Not worth half that price!) And don't get me started on Sony! Their copy protection thing was an abomination!!!!!
  24. I wasn't speaking about Windows-based anything. I certainly wouldn't recommend any windows-based mobile devices. Even MS-Mobile is ridiculously heavyweight. ...but my point is that non-proprietary things can be produced in a competitive market that drives quality up and therefore reduces problems like those that Mike is having........ The Windows O/S is an evil bugbear that we have to endure because it provides this sort of competitive market for desktop applications.
  25. Ha. Don't worry - I certainly don't think non-standard PC hardware is the best solution to the world's technology problems. Unfortunately, the Apple model also stems competition, which is part of what is holding them back. That's why there's so many better portable music players than the iPod (and it's why the software market supports Windows better than Mac OS). For portable music, Apple got the technology just about okay, but they got the marketing and the timing spot on. The problem is that there now just trying to squeeze money out of a cash cow rather than actually pushing the technology forwards.
