lol what a joke. you should have piped up and pointed out the BMW lane is the hard shoulder and as for getting right behind them, when the other drivers look in their mirror they will be thinking 'oh not another BMW driving tw@t who thinks he owns the road' not 'I'd better get out of the way out of respect' lol

ok yep I thought it looked like that was the case, just wanted to check. my current setup is apache under win2k doh. I might set up another machine though with linux and mono and the latest apache. slightly different question, recommended linux for this setup? I have RH9 currently and downloaded the latest Fedora 6 the other day, or maybe I should switch to Free BSD or something perhaps

Well I've never been troubled by a bmw, in all the years I've been driving in all the different situations and all the different drivers who have tried it on because they feel their cars status must make it better (see the BMW lane thread!) certainly compared to over cars maybe the BMW comes out well but considering a TT is so easy to BPU you'd have to spend a lot of money at the shiney BMW showroom to match that and then put up with a lot of depreciation the only BMW I ever drove handled like a pile of sh1te, really it did. felt much more rear wheel drive twitchy than the supra. Admitedly it was just one example though. At the end of the day both cars will have their fan base and there is no point arguing about it here, but there is nothing wrong with having an opinion so long as you can appreciate other people may feel differently. One thing for sure though, regardless of how common they are nearly every TT on the road is driven by what I'd consider to be a real car enthusiast and nearly every bmw I see is driven by an average joe who wouldn't know his spare wheel from his steering wheel lol (massive generalisation and exagerated for effect, but I think it is fairly representative)... Guess car enthusiasts know which car they would prefer, as do businessmen, reps and housewifes

I have the falkens on the back of mine at the moment. I have nothing to compare against but I think they aren't bad. However I've had wheelspin in the dry going from 3rd to 4th in a straight line in otherwise perfect conditions. That's on 18s too with an LSD, before I got RLTC. they are totally worn out now, in about 7-8k miles and I don't drift or spin them up intentionally... but any gripy soft tyre won't last a very long time

Bridgestone RE050A's seem to be highly regarded too (might be going for those myself) and mytyres.co.uk does some pretty good prices

Anyone on here use (or know of) Apache (pref 2.x) on an x86 win32 platform with Dot Net support? I've found Apache modules for .Net under linux (using mono) but none for use under win32 (well I think there was one but it is depricated...) if this can be done, anyone got a user guide for setting it up? cheers, L PS: anyone using apache 2.2.3 -> any good? thinking of upgrading my webserver to it, maybe on a rainy day. Either that or I'll fully switch to linux and mono on x86

They are so dull and common as muck. If you like dull cars get a BMW, personally I don't and I suspect I will lead a happy life never owning one - I'll leave that to the masses, the sheep, people with no imagination and stupidity to throw money away to get what they think is status - yawn
-
hmmmm I could probably fix it but where are you?

Cola bottles (sugar covered ones) Sherbet lemons (dangerous on the tongue though) Flying saucers (taste grim then BHAM comes the sherbet) Drumsticks and yes Fry's Chocolate Cream bars have to be one of the best choc bar inventions - ever period

thanks guys, don't suppose anyone has pics with or without the rim protectors so I can judge the clearance?

In my experience they are very reliable solid cars - they don't have any major mechanical flaws at all, just a few minor annoyances. Obviously they are not that economical as daily drivers but you don't get something (power) for nothing. I'd suggest it is worth looking for a model with the right options for you. I.e. consider bigger export spec 4 pot brakes (available as options), LSD etc. The manual 6 speed is a great car/box - but test drive one to be sure you like it (if you havn't already) a lot of people love the auto so you may not want to rule that out completely. check for signs of accident damage, poor mechanical servicing etc, other than that you can't really go too far wrong!

edit, sorry for some reason I didn't see the 'white' bit and my car is definitely black lol

I think my rear wheels are 10J at least, I'll take some pics when I can. Since the bridgestone, goodyear and falkens are all a similar price from mytyres I'd just like to pick the best out of the pack. I'd assume falken would be the worst if the prices are the same, goodyear and bridgestone are similar. do you have any idea how the re050a tyres wear?
-
hmmm tempting, I'd rather go to 275 of course. I'll take a pic then later of the clearance, maybe you can help me judge if it will be ok I have height adjustable suspension so I could raise it up a touch if I had to, but this would be a last resort of course as I'd not tinker with it unless I had to. So I could get the above 255-35R18 Z RE050As then if I was not to go larger of course prices seem good don't they

£395 for a whole set? seems well cheap, I'm in need of a new set too, and F1s look promising. May I ask where you got them from and what sizes let us know what you thing of their performance once you've had a chance to bed them in and test them out

Just been cleaning the car. Checked the tyres and they are a bit lower on tread than I though! doh! So looks like I need some new ones. Given a choice like this, what would you go for as an overall good value for money high performance tyre? Goodyear Summer tyres EAGLE F1 GS-D3 255/35 ZR18 94Y XL With mytyres.co.uk only £ 130.00 Details Put into shopping basket Ordering Falken Summer tyres FK-452 255/35 ZR18 94Y RFD Rim-protection With mytyres.co.uk only £ 130.70 Details Put into shopping basket Ordering Ultra High Performance Tyres Bridgestone Summer tyres Potenza RE 050 A 255/35 R18 90Y , BW With mytyres.co.uk only £ 134.90 All prices from http://www.mytyres.co.uk/ - their prices seem excellent - I'll get a local garage to fit. I'm going to need fronts too but they will be a bit cheaper as they are smaller, I'll pick based on the rears and get fronts to match later. I know that the goodyear F1s are well regarded on here, what about the Bridgestones? I'd like to go a bit wider on the rear up to 265 or 275 (rims will easily take it) but I'm a bit worried on clearance with the arches (car is very low). Maybe I'll post up a pic of the clearance for opinions on going larger later. Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated... or if you know of anywhere cheaper...

I give them the thumbs up, on the right car... Chrome is good, 5 spokes is the way to go and if you can get a good dish on them - especially on the back they will look great
-
mine is like that too, think they look nice

It's deliberate by design. When you are near empty you need more accuracy to see when you are about to run out When you have nearly a full tank do you care if it is 11 gallons or 12 - not really the scale is deliberately non-linear with more accuracy at the low end on every car I've ever driven/owned I think - it's like a standard design feature on analog fuel guages..
-
interesting topic, I also need new tyres soon. Got Bridgestone S02s on the front and falcon on the rear. What about the other contender, the bridgestone re50a? I've always really liked bridgestones, are the F1s better still?

I must admit that although RLTC does not give you more traction (impossible) it as good as does. Although technically you can do it all with your right foot in a turbo car because power in made with such positive feedback it is almost impossible to get just the right level of power with out backing off too much or getting boost to creep up. You can do it a bit, but RLTC can cut individual cylinders from firing within a single revolution of the engine. there is no way you can get that level of control. I'd be a lot quicker in the wet with RLTC on and maximising the grip at every moment vs. trying to do the same thing with the slow arse - brain - foot loop and the constant risk of over cooking it. There is no substitute for being able to drive, but RLTC as good as increases traction in the wet because it does the impossible, something the best driver in the world still couldn't do because it is a physical impossibility. but agreed, if you are spending money, before anything else, get good tyres!
-
why not, I'd go for it at any time of the year just treat it with a lot of respect! You could pretty much drive any car in any weather so long as you drive appropriately (i.e. using brain) with the supra in the wet that means carefully and smoothly as has been said can't imagine driving the supra in the ice and snow would be fun though, probably very easy to get stuck... Mine will be staying at home in those conditions even when I had the 4wd integrale before hand, and especially now with the supra I tend to only really go for it in the dry. So much can go wrong in the wet, especially at this time of year - unexpected mud on road, leaves, greasy roads, other people going to fast and crashing... even if you have the traction, you still have to be able to stop!
-
well the better the car handles in the dry and the more it is set up for the dry often the worse it is in the wet and to get a good handling alround is some compromise inbetween. Hard suspension, fat soft tyres etc all make for great dry weather handling but can make things worse in the wet...
