Underworld
Any one else see that video article on the news about that new electric car designed by Lotus? 0-60 in 4 seconds and 250 miles in a charge. It takes a few hours to charge. How cool is that?

AJI
few hours to re-charge.... as opposed to 2minutes to re-fuel No good for any journey that requiires any real distance to be travelled. And usually with these battery cars is that they use so much power doing a quick 0-60 start that they may only be able to do it once or twice.... and then this would probably bring the range of the thing down into the 10's of miles as opposed to the 100's claimed. There is nothing wrong with petrol... lots of people are being sucked in with all this government go green bull$hyte. The more that "mr I don't drive and therefore don't pay for my fuel Brown" increases tax on fuel it makes me want to go a waste more just to get even ! Thorin
Can't view the video at work, it's the Tesla though I presume? http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=75905&highlight=tesla
Alex
Yeah it's the Tesla. Lotus reworked the Elise for the project. It's good to see steps being made to make good electric cars. Yes atm the electricity production itself is dirty (coal etc power stations) but it's a step in the right direction...
Thorin
As I believe Alex pointed out in the last thread, Hydrogen Fuel cells are the future... well until they can produce a Mr. Fusion like Doc Brown used on the Delorean.
Alex
Honda are about 2 years away from a Fuel Cell based mass produced run around.
Underworld
Yea it would be good to see some alternatives to petrol come out. I was pretty shocked to hear about the performance of that tesla, I would also bet that you could only rag it a few times on a charge. It would be nice if we could save some oil for the future for non-vehicular use such as pharmacuticals and electronics as oil is used heavily in the manufacture of those things. Havard
There is nothing wrong with petrol... lots of people are being sucked in with all this government go green bull$hyte. Yeah, nothing wrong with petrol except for the fact that it causes shit loads of polution, supplies will run out in the next 15 - 20 years and alternatives need to be developed NOW.!!! I hate this government too, but it's not about petrol. When a clean alternative is found we'll all get screwed on that too!! I personally encourage anything that will make the world cleaner but you are never going to get away from the fact that whatever happens on the roads is phuq hall to the damage that industry is doing!! Rant Over!!1 H.
AJI
Nah, supplies are predicted to run out in about 200-300 years ! Only the government paid scientists say 20-30 years... it gives brown the excuse to hit us with more green taxes. Most pollution doesn't come from cars, it comes from powerstations and other industries. Electric cars use electricity to refuel and therefore are using the most polluting source of energy production.

monkey3
A company a friend of mine works for bought an electric vehicle (it was a van I believe) and he said after a year the batteries just would not hold a full charge. New set of batteries... ch-ching!!! I'd go for it though if the battery problem wasn't \ isn't one. I personally think the fuel cell idea is better. Or even running on hydrogen...
