halllon
Hi all, I am currently involved in the build of a JDM MKIV drift car, and I have come across this excellent forum in my search for information regarding the car. We would like to raise the final gear ratio of the car, and I would be thankful if someone one here could fill me in with following information: What are the most viable way to get a ~ 4.0:1 ratio (or similar)? I have read that NA MKIVs have a 3.7 diff ratio, and auto Aristos have 4.27. Are these diffs the same physical size as the TT diff, and can they take the same power and grip levels? Could Soarers or Toyota trucks be potential donors? Regards, halllon
Scooter
I'll have a look around for actual ratio figures but the late 6 speed na's have a higher ratio diff Click here for a thread about some conversions where its been used with a TT engine.... halllon
Is it correct that all 6 speeds have the same size diff casing, meaning that the crown wheel and pinion of a late NA will fit a TT? Will Aristo and early MKIV SUpra NA diff ratios fit the big TT diff casing?

Nic
Is it correct that all 6 speeds have the same size diff casing, meaning that the crown wheel and pinion of a late NA will fit a TT? The Supra was fitted with 2 diff casings. The black one in the pics below was fitted to all the early model (93-96) manual 6spd TT Supras. The other smaller diff casing was fitted to every other Supra model (late model manual TT, NA, auto). Do you know which diff casing you have? http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/343/supravsoarerjw5.jpg http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/571/supravsoarer2sc5.jpg Toyota sell the final gear sets, I've recently supplied one to a member who was wanting a longer gear ratio. http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/6451/picture1oh4.png
halllon
Cheers, thanks for your information. My diff is a VVTi differential, and it's definitely the smaller one. How much is a higher ratio, such as a 4.27 or higher (I don't know what's available), shipped to Norway?

Available ratios to fit your diff are Auto & 5spd Manual NA - 4.083 Auto TT & 6spd Manual NA - 3.769 Manual late model TT - 3.
Chris Wilson
Morning Halllon. May I draw your attention to this used but excellent diff I have? : http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=141916 I also have a complete set of new side bearings and side seals to enable a TRD plat type LSD to be fitted to it. I would like 120 UK ponds for the diff itself, shipping is unknown, it's heavy old lump.

Chris Wilson
I am trying for you Wes, i really am (Wes has some new bearings and seals here, that I said I'd try and find a buyer for...).
halllon
Hi Guys, Thanks for your offers. I have just bought a TRD LSD, new seals and bearings for my diff, so ideally I only need the crown wheel and pinion... Any chance you could split the diff and sell the parts separately, Wilson? On another note - will this smaller diff take the abuse in a fairly light drift Supra? We'll be running low power, around 450hp/550nm, but grippy R888 tires. Wez
Why would you use R888s for drifting?
Ian Hayward
You may find this useful (a little speadsheet my mate knocked up): Difference between 6 speed NA and TT diff ratios and the gear speeds. You can also adjust some of the cells to show you how different ratios will workGearbox Calculator V1.xls
Chris Wilson
Sorry, only want to sell as a unit. Being built up will allow you to do a cheap intall of your kit, as it will need minimal shimming as the pinion bearing won't be disturbed.
