engine and gearbox

In a car that weighs 1500kg I think it would be pretty undrivable unless you had ultra-short gearing. Bike engines don't produce the low down torque to accelerate a road car, unless you stick them in something very light.

But if you removed the stock engine and replaced with 2 mbike engines would it not bring the weight down 100 kg's. + if they were turbocharged couldn't you say get a couple of small units (turbos) to counteract the lack of torque of the revvy bike engines.

Edit - thats question by the way as i am not very technical :)

Are multiple engined machines allowed on the road, I seem to remember reading something about them not being able to have more than one engine engaged for road use (Could be way off, just remember some renault 5 years back which had two but couldn't use the second engine)

Do you remember the twin engined vr6 turbo golf from a few years back i believe that was road legal.

All ali Chevy V8 with a none electronic auto box, could make an awesome road car. Massive torque in a decent chassis, and shouldn't be that hard to do. get one on EFI though, as sub 10 MPG won't be fun for long!

Sounds entertaining... a little expensive, but entertaining.

well if we are talking hypothetically, id suppose an 8l TT V12 with an 8 speed DSG box would be just lovely

Not totally hypothetically, something I am considering for the future...

And Isn't a hybrid car twin engined?

but do both engines run at the same time?

Fair enough, wasn't quite sure when I posted it actually... The problem is, as pretty as the supra is, it has been surpassed technically and there are much better chassis out there these days.

Anything is possible, you could walk on the moon, but it'd be a huge amount of work, and you could just buy a Skyline instead, so what's the point? I am not sure if the front chassis rails on a MKIV are a not a bit too low for the front driveshafts to go under and allow suspension articulation, either, but again, they could be moved I suppose. Would be eye wateringly expensive o pay a professional to undertake the work of such a conversion, and you'd have mongrel that would have no great value at the end of it all. You'd need front and rear diffs with exactly the same ratios, too, of course, so you'd probably end up grafting a Skyline diff in. Would you want rear steer and 5 channel ABS and an active rear diff, too? Things would then get complicated with the wiring as well.

You've got one of the best gearboxes in the known universe in there as stock, leave it alone :stickpoke

Ian, you should try the box in the new Jag XKR, things have really moved on.

It [TS300] would make such a good track car.

I'd love to see how competitive it would be if you put slicks on it and took it to a Brit GT meet.

Well then, when I am ready for the conversion, just need some help with the engine and gearbox work, and we can get one up and running :D

What Cowboy Bebop is doing - if you want to actually improve on what the car can do.

Most other suggestions would make interesting conversions, but would be rather pointless all said and done.
