I once removed the heat sheild from mine when it was an NA, and in doing so I removed one of the studs that the sheild fixes on to (nut had seized solid, but never noticed) from the manifold.

When I came to start it up it was very loud, and that was with a hole no bigger than 6mm!

You weren't planning on starting it and running it for more than a few seconds without a downpipe???

You will start generating a LOT of heat in the engine bay even with the bonnet up, also don't forget the CO posioning that will taking place.

No i wasn't mate. My friend seemed to think it would be ok to start it for a while without a downpipe and i knew 100% i was right that you should'nt. I just wanted a few opinions to back it up.
