Chris Wilson
It should start but the O2 sensors will be confused. It should even drive like that but it's not recommended.

jim_supra
I once removed the heat sheild from mine when it was an NA, and in doing so I removed one of the studs that the sheild fixes on to (nut had seized solid, but never noticed) from the manifold. When I came to start it up it was very loud, and that was with a hole no bigger than 6mm!

JustGav
Craziness. Will get downpipe ordered as soon as i have some frickin money!! You weren't planning on starting it and running it for more than a few seconds without a downpipe??? You will start generating a LOT of heat in the engine bay even with the bonnet up, also don't forget the CO posioning that will taking place. My friend seemed to think it would be ok to start it for a while without a downpipe and i knew 100% i was right that you should'nt. I just wanted a few opinions to back it up. Chris Wilson
I have driven a TT for about 60 miles with nothing beyond the turbo elbow, it was noisy as hell and didn't run very well, but off too much boost it shouldn't do any harm so long as nothing melts with the heat. (Nothing did...)
