Miguel
Jake chill i feel for ya... The thing i like about a threads like this is that as a board we are all moving on as info to our cars come ..therefore all becoming more compis when it comes to info. So we all know when legit or duff info comes along... this makes it cool in my book as we can all decide on our own merit instead of following the sheep dog:thumbs:

dude
Feck me , 2.30 !!!!! Guess Pauls not gonna get an early start then Just seems a real hard way of doing things trying to do it upside down and if youve got the gearbox off and rad out with the timing cover off you are so close to pulling the motor , in fact it prob is not a lot of difference in time with getting the subframe out .personally i wouldnt even attempt it on a ramp as the amount of time spent underneath has got to = major backache , still you got Oxy there for a quick rubdown How long till its back on the road and any sign of what caused the failiure ???? unusual for a sup bottom end to start knocking or does this look like it could have started dude to low oil level and the infamous Abbey leak !!!! I really don't know Paul but he seems like a good guy from what I've seen of him IRL, but all that has absolutely nothing to do with this. Firstly, nothing I said was to you anyway. Secondly nothing I said was in the least bit insulting, unless the you're on about the Mycroft joke and if that's the case you want to lighten up a bit mate. You used to be able to take a bit of leg-pulling. Paul is defo into helping people Jake as on Sunday when that guy shifted into neutral and started running rough we had quite a few telephone conversations to try and figure out whats wrong with the car as the guy was stuck in an internet cafe and Paul was trying to help him Doesnt mean i need to agree on this slant on engine building though Dude:flame Dev

Guys, we are to aware what dirt can do and thats why Im always clean around Paul, we are very carefull with all parts, just cause the workshop is a mess doesnt mean Pauls work is....... On that note now, as I said we was just trying to make this board a little more interesting to read, if anyone cant post anything even remotely constructive then this thread will be dead cause we will not reply any more............. Not quite sure where the acreage (which has actually been almost doubled in your post, thanks for the gift... ) ties up with my workshop, which is extremely modest, but still What worries me is how anyone can clean the block and all its oilways and crevices with it in situ. A failed rod bearing, which is presumably the cause of the knocking, will have deposited its bearing material throughout the block and heads oilways, and left a debris throughout the engine. Short of the block being out, all the oilway core plugs being removed and it being hot tanked then pressure washed through all the oilways I don't see how the thing CAN be got ready for a rebuild. Checking the block for straightness on the main saddles and fitting the crank above your head sounds a total nightmare. Honing the bores in situ? Hmm, I would want it on a boring machine to be sure of parallel and none barelled bores, even with just a hone being all that's required. This thread is getting a bit unpleasant, so I am not trying to add oil to the flames, but feel obliged to cite my reasoing behind my posting. I used to do work I was proud of and that won me national race championships out of a single car domestic garage, so I can assure you it's NOT necessary to have a swankey place to turn out nice engines
