Muffleman
My turbo used to get full boost by 3500ish, seems to be about 1000rpms later and isnt holding boost above 1.3bar. What could the causes be ? I figure knackered turbo so I will take it off and have a look, but anything else ?
JamieP
when mine started getting laggy it turned out to be melted turbo blades, does the aem run your boost?
Muffleman
when mine started getting laggy it turned out to be melted turbo blades, does the aem run your boost? Yup. Going to take the turbo off over the weekend if I get chance, have a look at the blades. Just wondered what else it could be.

Pig
Mine was a split piston ring - massive lack of power down low though
Sheefa
I'm not an expert as you well know matey, but from speaking to Greg @ Turbofit he certainly said that higher rpm spool was a sign that the turbos were on their way out in all liklihood. Run em til they blow like JamieP to make sure though
michel lane
i would say its a boost leak on the intake side . Have you got an after market inlet manifold ? else check your BOV, accelerate on the peddle whilst holding your hand over the BOV , see if it leaks while you are accelerating...check you hose couplings. Muffleman
Turbo off, no play in hotside at all and no visible blade damage but need to take it apart completely and check the blades. Probably just send it to turbo technics and let them give it the once over. No bits in the downpipe or backbox, so 90% sure the turbo is okay. Cracked exhaust manifold could cause the loss of spool so I decided to take this off at the same time - what a PITA !!! I have the top row of bolts loose, but the bottom row under the runners is a nightmare ! Anyone got any tips ?????

Muffleman
Just spoke to Turbo Technics and the turbo has a full bill of health - so not that then. I guess it could be wastegate, so I'll take that off and check but it's not often the wastegate at the fault of these problems, and it's an HKS GT so not a cheapie. That or manifold, just bought some crescent shaped ring spanners, should help in getting the manifold off.
Ryan.G
Thanks for pm muffleman Have you just tried running the turbo of actuator pressure and see that it is not anything to do with aem controlling it
Muffleman
Not yet, because of the retard in the launch control and the mess it made of Jamie's turbo, I thought I would get the turbo checked out first to see if my turbine blades were fooked. Turbo came back today so get that fitted back on and take it for a run at the weekend. Will report back
