michael
hi, iv got a L reg supra NA so my 1st very stupid Q is is this a mk4? as iv heard people call them all kinds of things and i dont have a clue! Yes it's a MKIV, welcome to the club 2nd, when i drive away my doors automatically lock (not sure if this is a feature of the alarm or standard) but there is also a button by the electric windows with a picture of a door and key on it, im guessing this is ment to lock/unlock the doors but it doesnt seem to work, it makes a click noise like the locks are trying to move but it doesnt, any ideas? This tends to be an alarm feature - the button you describe should lock and unlock depending on which end of it you press, the alarm may be setup to prevent this though. Did you get any alarm documentation? Do you know what make it is? 3rd, when i turn on my headunit and switch to the radio, 1stly i cant pick up and bands, only goes to to like 88fm and the areial at the back doesnt move up but i was told this was electric? again any ideas? You need a radio band expander, you can pick these up on eBay etc - it allows you to get UK frequencies on a Japanese market radio. Failing this just swap the headunit as youv guessd im new to my car and i have no idea about whats where or what could be the problem so all answers in dummy terms please:d The search link above is your friend, it will reveal answers to most of the questions you might have during this early phase of ownership, if it doesn't don't be afraid to ask (Just don't post about the "red button")

michael
thanks mate perfect:d the alarm is a TOAD and yes i have all the documents for it. There should be an option to disable the autolocking if you like but it's also an alarm a lot of people here have so someone may be along in a bit to say if theirs allows them to unlock with the button

Guest Phillw454
In the mean time - don't leave your keys in the ignition and walk off. dont say that!!! thats my fear! everytime i open the boot or wash the car with the windows up i panic about what i do with my keys!! I think im ok as the doors only lock when the car is started and in motion. Unlike my mates corsa where the doors lock within 40secs if the car isnt locked regardless of where the keys are! as for the alarm, i think iv got the manual aswell so il have a read through, its not a huge prob, just a pain when someone wants to get in the passenger side:)

stevie_b
Welcome to the club Phillw454. Wow, I always thought that locking button thing locked the electric windows in position, rather than the doors. Learn something new every day.... As michael said, Toad is a very popular alarm system on these cars. You may be able to operate the door locks with the button in the door, but I've heard it's best to use the remote (something to do with keeping the alarm in sync with the door lock solenoids, but I don't think it matters too much). To unlock the doors, just try pressing the unlock button on the remote fob.

The windows are locked by the button next to this one - little square fella rather than the longer one that does the doors.
Ian C
Normally I'd bump a post like this out of tech is it's not really that techie, but that'd be overly harsh to a new guy so it stays and welcome -Ian

Chris Wilson
Disable absolutely everything on the alarm save that which is vital to keep your insurance valid. I hate the damned things, self locking, self closing windows, anti hi-jack (Jeez, it's not Beirut here, yet), keypads, codes, voices, bleeps and beeps. Give me a plain key any day
markjodrell
I have a toad, the locking doors business is an anti hijack bollocks thingy. However my door buutton does open the doors when pressed. But mine doesnt self lock until the car is actaully in motion. I tried it only the other day , with my spare set of keys in hand.
ChrisSZ
In the mean time - don't leave your keys in the ignition and walk off. LOL:d I did that in my GT4 when I first fot it - showing a mate the car, got out (after having started the engine) and shut the door, blipped the throttle from under the bonnet and heard the dreaded 'clunk' as the doors locked (engine still running ). Had to get the ballast's mum to pop round home to get my spare keys and drive 30 miles to me with them :d WTTC dude - possibly the best person to talk to about your alarm is Matt Harwood Have fun

stupra
My car locked itself with the keys in the ignition not long ago, I was well pissed off. The misses wasn't impressed either, as for some reason i'd left the spare fob at my mums, and she had to go and get it .
how_supra
My spare fob was in my glove box when James [yes im blaming him] left my keys in the ignition for two minutes. [not clever I know] I too was not amused.
