Dave
my a/c is not working .do u just push the a/c button in and it works or ? is there a visible way of checking the gas ?
peter richards
hi dave, when you press the ac button can you here the engine revs increase. where in south wales are you m8
ardasaliah
If the revs don’t increase then it may need re-gassing. Mine didn't do anything until I got it gassed. The Supra Aircon has a safety feature which does not let the condenser run when the gas pressure is low. I got mine gassed for £50 and he included a leak test too. Working fine now Hope this helps
Gordon F
Originally posted by davemartin my a/c is not working .do u just push the a/c button in and it works or ? is there a visible way of checking the gas ? There should be a bubble in the sight glass in front of the radiator. When you press the a/c button there should be an audible clunk as the compressor clutch engages, and the engine idle revs will drop.
sinbad
My A/C makes quite a bit of noise at idle. Any ideas what this could be?

What does the H tap do?
Wez
Originally posted by carl0s I always wondered what that sightglass was for. What does the H tap do? The H tap is a cover for where you charge the system, the sightglass when the AC is running should be flowing clear liquid, if its flashing (bubbles) it needs topping up. carl0s
I see nothing in the glass, and my compressor doesn't engage. I'd go have it filled right now, if it wasn't for the fact that I have a receipt to show it was filled in September 2003. So I suspect there's a leak somewhere. Chris Wilson
Just done the A/C on a Volvo 900 series, no gas, filled and checked for leaks, fitted new condenser and receiver dryer, filled again, compressor seized after 10 minutes, fitted exchange compressor. ran for 2 days, valve stuck, fitted new. OK now, bill for 1500 quid. Just open the window and wear white.

An a/c specialist should be able to find the leak for you without re-gassing the system. If you need a new radiator / condenser, I have one for sale here

R12 (the now illegal, but best gas) and R134a have diffrent connectors, so your gassing station is the wrong one. You can buy adaptors. You can still find R12 if you try hard and spend extra. Paul Laing
Before i took my car to toyota and they knackered the sump the Air Con worked fine, now it doesn't work at all, could they have done something? My dad can get it re-gassed for free through work but the strange thing is the revs don't go higher when it's pressed , they went higher in my last Supra but had no air con then so i'm a bit confused

carl0s
the a/c diag info I have stresses that you must not use the wrong type of gas. Something about the valves and the lubricating agent that's used being specific.
Wez
R134A is the replacement for R12, Toyota now use R134A when you get your car regased.
