Right so a J-spec is MAP right? So in the least it would need a MAF? Now I can see why it would run lean if it was putting in 0.8 bar of fuel but there was equivlent of 1.2 bar of air in there. The fog is lifting :)

You got it bud. A MAF sensor is calibrated for it injector size and the coresponding airflow. A MAF would still get maxed out if left stock.

But what's you oppinion...would it harm the engine to run like this?

How long is a piece of string. I don't know the history of this car or how it has been driven. For all I know it might be perfect and has never seen WOT when driven. I would not personaly drive the car without the fueling and ecu in place. The engine could very well be perfect and you could drive it for the rest of your life like it just never going WOT.

Just doest make any sense to me why someone would bolt this turbo on and leave everything else stock. That's like Paying for a girlfriends boob job and never getting to play with them :)

Good Thread.....

So is it true that by using a FPR one can get their 440s to act as 550 for additional fuelling requirement for bigger / single turbos?

Is this the way to go, or would one recommend changing for larger injectors? What works out cheaper and what sort of numbers are we looking at in the form of cost?

Just got some pictures of the engine bay.

That intake tube look a bit thin i think

By the way, what the heck is a "Blitz ID Unit" (look at the last picture, just left of the steering wheel

I think the simple answer to your question of why no boost controller and ECU is that the seller most likely already had a BC and ECU installed on the car and decided not to sell them with the car maybe ?

Might be worthwhile to ask him if this was the case and if so what ECU did he use and was it fully mapped or a half finished project ?

Doesn't look like a GT42 to me...

A GT42 should have a 4-5" intake to start with...and it's upto a 1000hp turbo depending on spec....I call BS.

As for the rest of this thread looks like someone has gotten a right hard over nothing.

Look the rule of thumb is 1cc = 1hp...but being sensible I knocked 20bhp off as a safety margin. This is at the crank. If you think you can get more than 420BHP on stock 440cc injectors (at the crank) I'd say you were smoking something, which ever turbo you have. Assuming stock rail pressure.

And you'll never get to 420bhp on stock ceramic turbo's because they will produce sooo much extra heat and be sooo far outside of their efficiency island that they will just blow the car up if you were to attempt it.

agreed with all that and especially about the turbo it looks no bigger than my garratt gt40-88 and i've seen 42's and there huge it would be closer to touching the side of the chassis wall near the struts, the lettering on the turbo that says garratt looks dodgy too not real garratt i.e cheap copy etc

It's a lovely looking supra...but without a compression/leakdown test and a dyno sheet I wouldn't have it unless you're willing to pay for the a full rebuild on top...as we suspect it could be running massively lean.

Investigate it more but keep your sensible hat on.
