Todd
Wife had a MK1 MX5 for 3 yrs and loved it but as I'm such a car junky I sold it and got her a MR2 Roadster. I prefered the roadster myself driving wise but the mid engine rear wheel drive caught the missus out a couple of times and she never really got used to it. So today nipped out and as Pete said, bought her a winter bargain Bang for buck you won't get a better car for the money, really does make you smile when your throwing them about the B roads. vvteye
You won't go wrong with an FTO. Remember that this won sportscar of the year in Japan in 1994 and 95 which shows what the build and styling is like when you consider it was up against the Supe and others. I had no problems with mine except a failing alternator which was caused by a dud battery requiring some jump starts from bigger ampage cars. 3 years of hassle free motoring. Make sure it's a gpx mivec and you'll be starting off with 200bhp and brilliant traction around the twistys for on those odd days when you will need to drive it. One more thing... don't get a red one unless you like pink spoilers and mirrors!

Suprasteve
Instead of the usual Jap stuff like MX5, FTO, Celica etc how about a Saab convertable 2.0Turbo SE. I think they look the business, lots of class, good mpg, group 15 insurance, pretty quick (0-60 under 7 secs), extremely reliable*, very comfortable, lots of gizmos and i sure you can get one with lowish mileage for just a few years old. I personally think thats a hell of a lot of car for £6k and if i had to down size to saving money i'd get one. however on a downside some people believe they come with a pipe and slippers....but not me. *My old man had a G reg 9000 from new and kept it for 10 years done over 250,000 miles before scrapping it (auto gearbox gave up) he serviced it himself once a year thats all. - very reliable cars.
