Mkiv Jap - Uk Turbos

Guest Fred

Im in the unfurtunate position of having my primary turbo faiil on my Jap Supra Mk IV. My question is this: The Jap has the ceramic turbos and the UK spec are steel and slightly bigger. Can anyone tell me if the UK spec turbos will fit the Jap manifold?

Thanks

From what I understand, as the turbos are slightly bigger, the power output is slightly higher than the jap spec although obviously spin-up speed is slower. Since my first post, I've found out that to fit the UK spec you need the UK manifold and the first downpipe as well.

how did it fail? bearing, over revving or did something hit the turbine?

While you are here....

On the other thread you advertised 3 sets of turbos for sale, out of interest is there any difference in the ones from the VVTi car over the normal J's?

It went under medium accelaration, power just died and tubos no longer spun. It appears the shaft on the primary has gone. Car runs 406BHP and I'm advised that this strains the ceramics a bit. Not being an engineer I couldnt say myself.

On the subject of prices, best price I've been quoted so far is 450 inc for a pair of 45000 KM j-specs. Seems a bit pricy. Anyone got any ideas of what is a fair price?

Cheers, just trying to fill my head up with information and I've wondered about that one for a while but never bothered to check the part numbers on the EPC :)

yes, VVti assemblies are different. IMO it's best to buy new J-Spec ones and stay ceramic...
