Looks like our rolling road day is going to be pushed back til at least January guys so how about a meet in between? (november or december?)

Any ideas on dates, locations or good driving routes?

possibly meet at loch lomond and drive up the A82? Stirling way? (central for east and west coast members)

Aye that's what i was thinking either a scoot up to Fort William, set off in the morning, dinner at McD's and then back via the loop to Kinlochleven.

Or - slightly shorter with the chance of some food at a pub or failing that from a chippy a run out the back of Denny through Killin? and up to Aberfeldy basically follow the Trossachs Trail back to Callendar and then either head back to Stirling for some food or back to the Motorway for all to go their own way.

sounds like a good plan mate. so the choice is either:

(a) run up the A82 to Fort William for some grub and back down again

(b) run along the trossachs trail to Aberfeldy then back to Callander / Stirling for some food

I'm thinking option B will be most popular as it's more central and isn't going to break the bank for anyone whereas someone from the east coast is gonna spend a fair bit of cash getting accross to Glasgow and then up to Fort William and back.

I'll wait for a few more suggestions then put a poll up.

No need to run across to Glasgow to set off to Fort William - start at Stirling services. People from Glasgow come up M80 and everyone else up the M9

That would be a good start point for both tours actually.

From there the run to Fort William is about 120 miles (and i suggest a tour not a racr to to the hills heh) or about 60/70 miles round trip on some quite tight roads but with possible picture stops along the way.

sorry. when i say Glasgow i mean north of Glasgow, i.e. Balloch / Loch Lomond.

I wouldn't have thought folk from Glasgow will be too keen on going over to Stirling to come back accross to the west coast again is all.

Perhaps that one is better left for next year when the weather is a little better anyway?

i'm certainly erring towards the Trossachs route towards Aberfeldy myself. Will see if anyone else has any suggestions though.....

okie poke

for reference y'all here's the route to Fort William, Stirling is sort of in the middle for Glasgow peeps, you just approach Crianlarich from a different direction really. Also reckons about a 100 mile from start point.

and the other trip should be Aberfoyle, my mistake there. Better start from Falkirk for twisty roads and scenary but Stirling is the easy centre point for everyone.

d'oh. of course Aberfeldy is over by the A9

could certainly get some food at Aberfoyle and drive up towards the lochs up the hill......get some decent photo opportunities there as well.

Oooh loads of posts looks like a good meet in prospect.

Meeting point - really needs to be determined by what people can find. The Wheel is well signed and not far off the motorway, there is also a petrol station very close by for those wanting to fuel up and avoid getting scamped in the wilds!

Services are the easiest to find by far though and we can head back that way anyway as it makes a nice loops and stops us recovering any roads.

Food - hmmm. If it was summer i'd say bring sarnies and lets picnic or stop at the chippy in callendar. with this being december though that might not be a good move. There is a pub with a fair sized car park at Kilmahog which we could check out or we can go into Stirling for food afterwards. THere is a Pizza Hut at Springkerse if anyone fancies that.

We'll probably not get there until mid afternoon though so big breakfasts could be the order of the day. There is also bound to be Brewer's Fayre jobs all over the place so could try one of those.
