Offers by PM

Ok another pointless thread/poll since there is a lot of the going about.

Just something that I would like to see what other people thought about it...............

Offers by PM or just offers in general

This just gets right on my tits, I mean then we have to PM like an idiot not know what to offer,s fair enough an exspensive item and highest bidder etc, but more and more items are going up for offers and the caption "I don't know how much this is so offers" I mean most people that have sold are long time members that have been on here and seen the forsale threads so they must have a fair idea on whats its worth.

It annoys me too, but I can see it working both ways. Sometimes a seller may not have a clue what an items worth so just put 'offers' rather than researching the real value.

Its a buyers market here for parts so the prerogative is mostly going to be on the buyer.

I think it's the seller's right to do whatever they want. I tend to use that on some items because:

a) I've no idea what the value of the item is

b) I want to get the most cash - just the same as a buyer - that ideally wants to pay the least.

If the item - is something .. that I don't value ..then I'll more than likely give it away.

IMHO I think that there should be an "offers around" kinda mark - that way you know what ball-park the seller is in.

If you just say "offers", you end up with the majority of threads or PM's something like the following:

Bidder #1 : I'll give you 50p

Seller's insulted and comments

Bidder #2: I'll give you 51p then :p

....

......

And so on. If i want to buy something, I'd like to know the ROUGH price before negociating otherwise the whole process can take ages. Eventually you'll ask the seller via PM anyway, what kinda figure we talking? And then rather than add the figure on the post initially, the seller then goes and tells various interested parties via PM anyway.

If I was selling something then I would bang on a fair price and the first one that puts the offer in would get it!! I've even given stuff away on this forum (included the postage as well) in the interests of club camaraderie but some people just try and get as much as they can get! I'm not saying that things should be next to free but there is only 5,500 of us from a 61 million population. I'm certain we can look after each other IMHO!!

It certainly doesn't annoy me. I think sometimes people do take the mick a little with certain items, but I wouldn't say it annoys me. If I want to buy something I will generally know the approximate value of the said item so will offer around that sort of figure to the seller.

I say it's up to the seller what they want to say, after all, you don't have to out a price when you sell something on Ebay. I know it's not strictly an auction, but why not try to make the most amount of money? Personally I don't really see the problem.
