Funny - I overhauled a Type R onto a straight once. Was a 2 door before you start claiming it was a rebadged UK or something.

forgetting about drivers here, a 300bhp supra will NOT keep into a 300Bhp STi impreza (unless its on a motorway well over 100mph which in my opinion takes the buzz out of a race) i have owned both and i love the supra and even more so its tuning abilities, loads of guys here dont like em, but they are serious cars, like i said above most of them are just driven by idiots

Without drivers they would both be at a stand still :D

well that is true..but honestly ive owned a real nice STi Type R with light mods producing 300brake, i think you should get someone to bring you for a proper spin in one, it will surprise you and will DEFFO put a smile on your face, trust me ;)

Since I have an STi Type UK Prodrive and I'm thinking of swapping it for a Supra I couldn't resist joining in ;) .

The fact is that as standard cars, the 4WD gives the Scoobie a huge advantage on any reasonably bendy road. My favourite driving roads are mostly B roads and in general it's hard to get much above 90-100 (if you can they aren't bendy enough) so being able to "pull away above 130" is not enormously useful. I can floor the throttle at virtually any speed above about 20mph in the dry and apart from a slight wiggle, the car copes no problem.

That said, the tuning potential of Imprezas is pretty limited compared to Supras, which is one of the main reasons why I'm thinking of buying a Supra, which brings me to my question...

How much power do people reckon a Supra would need to be able to keep up with my car on a bendy B road (say no faster than 120). I know that it depends, but are we talking 400, 500, 600BHP?

I don't know if many of you saw the most recent edition of Japanese Power, but a 650BHP Supra mentioned was lapping the Ring at 8:20, whereas the 350BHP Impreza Spec C mentioned in the same edition was quoted as lapping at just less than 8:00. I have no idea how good the drivers were though, which clearly can make a very big difference.

Can I also point out that I am not trying to start a flame war. I have always loved Supras, but I love my STi too. They are both great cars, but very different considering they are both Japanese turbos.
