pardon my ignorance but wot is the difference between uk & j-spec pads?

The UK spec supra has different brake setup - 4 pot caliper on the front, 2 pot calipers on the back, larger discs so different pads too.

The UK brakes do come with some Japs (I think it mau have been an option).

The Jap Brakes have 2 pot on the front and one pot on the back, smaller discs so pads are different.

If you have the money and want to, go for the Jap to UK upgrade as it's much better.

Calling them UK and Jap spec brakes is a very confusing description, as the larger spec brakes were also fitted as a performance option on earlier Jap Supras and then as standard on later models. So just because you have a Jap import car, doesn't necessarily mean you have the smaller brakes.

Smaller Spec Brakes

FRONT = 2 pot calipers/296mm diameter discs

REAR = 1 pot calipers/307mm diameter discs

Larger Spec Brakes

FRONT = 4 pot calipers/323mm diameter discs

REAR = 2 pot calipers/324mm diameter discs

The easiest way to tell if you have the larger or smalller brakes, is by looking at the calipers. The Larger spec front and rear calipers have the Supra logo on them (see attached photo of 4 pot front brake caliper). The smaller spec calipers DO NOT have the logo and are a different shape.

For those members who have the smaller spec brakes fitted, one of the best mods you can do to make your car drive faster, is to fit the larger spec brakes so you can stop better. The smaller spec brakes are really under powered for a relatively big, heavy and power full car like the Supra. The Larger spec brakes are far superior and give extremely good braking power, that can cope with even the fastest road use.

:Plug: If anyone wants larger spec brakes, I can get them a LOT cheaper here in HK, pm me if you want details. I also have 3 sets of new 4 pot front calipers for sale at the moment see details [thread=48103]HERE[/thread]

BTW, I would also recommend anyone with smaller or larger spec brakes to fit a set of Chris Wilson's fast road pads. I have used these myself and they greatly improve braking over the standard pads.

Fitting braided stainless steel brake lines and using a good quality brake fluid will also help improve braking, on the smaller and larger spec brakes.

:D :) my pads do have the supra logo on them so ill assume i have the better set of stoppers on mine thanks again :thumbs:

Lee, if you have a camera handy, could you post photos of the front and rear brakes as an example and also so I can double check that they are the larger brakes.

If anyone isn't sure what brakes they have fitted, post photos of the front and rears so we can identify for you.

Same problem here, trying to identify 4 pot or 2. I'm guessing I have the 2 pot front calipers as they apear to have a similar construction to my prelude calipers which are only single pot.

Thought the pic might help others. Note the supra logo though!

Those are the 2 pot calipers with the small dics.

I see a bit of green there, if these are green-stuff pads bin them and get some Chris Wilson ones in ASAP!! They make a huge, huge difference. Green stuffs are utter wank.
