Auto box speed signal sender question

Chris Wilson

Recommended Posts

No. 2 sensor, speedometer sensor is gear driven, no. 1 ECU speed sensor is not.

Hall, magnetic or impulse I don't know, they either work or they don't and are easily swappable, which is as far as my fascination has gone.

Thanks again, will the gear come off the sensor? Not sure what you mean by "must not be changed", do you mean the gear, or fitting the whole sensor / gear from an N/A box into a TT box? I have a scrap N/A auto box complete with sensors, I was hoping it could be a donor if required.

Thanks Swampy, and yes, I am hoping it's "something" behind the dash or in the footwell. I never cease to be amazed at how fully an average Joe can blitz a perfectly good wiring loom in search of the dubious goal of blue LED's or a dashboard like a 1960's Boeing ;)

All the black analogue speed sensors (89411-50010) that go on the side of the gearboxes are swappable between NA, TT, even the Lexus A650 5 speed gearbox I had uses the same ones.

The no.2 digital sensor with the gear is the primary speedometer sensor TT (33482-59025), NA (33482-39415). Difference is the gear on the end that just slides out of the housing.

Think I have all that right, and as David says I have a box full of gearbox spares as I had a year of "burning" through gearboxes.

Attached the speed sensor test page.
