KW Variant 3 Coilovers

The KW use the stock top mounts. We had to bore out the hole in them a tiny bit but other than that, they are spot on.

Teins will corrode for 300 extra you don't have to replace them...there's your extra worth right there.

I got my top mounts off someone on the forum for peanuts. Keron prolly has loads.

I've text Keron. Thanks.

I had KW V1's on my old fiesta many years ago, best suspension I've ever bought. Had one locking ring crack and contacted support. The first guy I emailed sent me out a set of 4 brand new with C spanners absolutely free. I didn't even know they were coming, just arrived a few days after I'd started making contact with them :)

No.1 for me would be the REAS. It's meant to be an amazing bit of kit. I actually looked into getting a set on my car but the hassle along with the rebuild cost just edged me out.

My next choice would be nitrons. That would be a money no object purchase though.

KWs look like the best choice of aftermarket to go for with value in mind. They are nowhere near the standard of coilovers that people (myself included) generally put on their car, but they aren't priced ridiculously sky high either.

With the above in mind, in your shoes I would be having a similar quandary. REAS rebuild or new KWs.

Look forward to seeing which way you go. REALLY want to go out for a run if you go down the REAS route :)

I personally have the kW installed in the car ans the ride quality is nice when you want to cruise and still can adjust it down more softy,, but then when you wanna bleed from the kidneys racing style you can do that also turning them up and fuck does it make the car handle that way,,

Then after playtime is over turn them back to cruisig softness and happily cruise for days

Put up a wanted request...it's better to wait for the right parts.

Most aftermarket top mounts are junk so don't think a kit with them is superior... the $3000 Zeal suspension I took off mine was corroded to feck.

Thanks mate. I take it they are ridiculous price new from MrT!?

Does anyone know the part numbers!?

Marks Engineering does do top mounts specifically for the KWv3 but apparently he is not shipping to the UK ATM due to setting up a local distributor!

I got several kits of reas here if you want to buy another set to use and mod

Well considering I can't get repair parts anymore I think the REAS will be on the way out tbh.

I had REAS on my old SZ-R. I liked it, but IMO it was designed more to give a good handling car with less body roll but retain very good 'in a straight line' bump compliance, so nice and comfy and well damped for the road with less of the body roll 'in corner' you'd expect from that level of comfort.

My fronts started leaking and I couldn't see a way to easily change them and keep the pressurised part of the system.....ie it looked like specialist work to renew the REAS shocks, so I fitted normal Bilsteins with no discernible difference (going from leaking poor REAS to new bilsteins may have hidden the difference). NB I also could see how to remove all the hard pipe that linked the shocks to the middle piston/chamber and so had to cut these to remove them.....so 'possibly' a subframe drop to remove a used system whilst keeping it intact.

Perhaps a slight lower spring might be an option on good condition REAS?

I spoke to kw up at the good wood fos stand last year , I will defiantly be going for a set soon I was impressed using the stock top mounts is to aid with the ride quality ,also they come pre-setup so must be worth trying their setup before changing it

Hmmm, not sure on the pre-setup bit...if I'd put them on at the height they came out the box at the car would have been on the floor. I instead, set the height according to the manual they come with, noted down the damping clicks they were on when I got them. Ultimately I went middle of the range as I expected this to be a good place to start.

BTW, Feeler/Helper springs should be COMPRESSED fully BEFORE load is applied. Just a note for when you do go to fit them. They are there to assist moments when you come off a rise like a hump-back bridge.
