shaz2010
Anyone got an idea how much it will cost someone to do these? Thinking about doing them myself with the father in law as he's a mechanic but seeing how much the cost for someone else to do them first. Cheers

Ric
I did them myself following this method and guide on my old supra.. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?49859-How-To-Valve-Stem-Seal-Replacement If i can do them.. anybody can!
hodge
I'm not a fan of stuffing rope inside my engine. If the seals are gone I'd say it's going to be worth removing all the carbon deposits from the valves had giving the head a refresh.

If you are a can have a bit crack what's the best way to go about it. Me neither I'm not thinking about rope was thinking more compressed air instead

Yes it's costly but as far as I'm concerned it's the right way to do it. Speak to you Saturday bud.

Head off, Clean, Skim, Lap valves, V stem oil seals(I have a Snap-on tool for these, it's awesome), Water pump, Cam belt/Tentioner/Idler, etc.. I usually get a full engine gasket kit from Toyota which includes Head Gasket, Rocker Covers, Cam Seals, Front & Rear Main Seals, Valve Stem Oil Seals, Loads of other Gaskets, Seals, O rings, etc etc.. Chris Wilson
Most heads are now of the age and mileage where they need valve guides replacing or linering, and some valves, (probably exhaust ones), replacing. Guide work gets costly...
