I got Leukaemia and it all stopped dead in it's tracks. However, due to a customers V8VVTi project it is now coming off the back burner. (Glenn K will be the first recipient when it's finished). The main problem with it was the 4D Systems Picasso processor just isn't man enough for the task. Even with every optimization trick in the book is was barely 10 frames a second (and that is with graphics being streamed off the SD card via the Spi bus in realtime). I'm going to strip the code back to something equally as pretty but less processor intensive. Having to stream data via RS232 from the data logger as well doesn't help as the bloody thing doesn't have any service interrupts for the asynchronous data pipe but the data logger does.

I would need at least 10 people with deposits in hand to actually make this work.

Bit of a C U Next Tuesday really, :(

Is the display you suggested for me a slightly cutdown version of this device for gear and cruise display?

I have a 1.7" OLED screen I was going to use for yours mounted in the Tacho Cluster. Do you Prefer this? I have the prototype my wife made as the only one production version is reserved.

I've seen some new colour paper screens that you can have made in any shape and size and they even bend like acetate sheet. I've seen it used in a very high end Vegas casino gaming machine and if looks fecking sweet. Not sure how long we will need to wait into this becomes main stream. What made see take note was the fact you can make certain areas transparent to allow things underneath to show though. Nice if you want to have a blend on analogue and digital.

Engine and Auto Control ECU's are still on the cards, It's just a matter of time. I'm looking to getting into bed with an ecu manufacture who I want to do a ecu platform to my spec using all the nice feature I've seen on all the ecu's i've used in the past + a few things they never seem to think of like tril-linear bezier,b or Catmol Rom spline mapping, Grid subdivision, Scripting language like squirrel to allow the user more control over how the i/o and sensors interact to allow custom conditioning of the inputs & outputs. Fortunately I found a manufacture who is open to suggestion unlike most who just think I'm a knob and have no idea what I'm talking about.

As a side bar to the above. I've acquired a Quixant stand alone 12v Gaming machine server which I'm putting in my Supra Race car with a 24" HD 1080p monitor. I already have a very powerful rending engine at my disposal so that will serve as display and media server and interface into the entire car allowing me to control every light bulb and car mech though a touch interface in the steering wheel. I considered blue tooth but I think I will just use the slip ring at it has about 6 channels as my car had cruise and airbag.

Rather than replace the tacho gauge alltogether I'd prefer either an integration below the needle which replaces the space currently used for the auto lights, or mounted into the dash plastic over near the cluster dimmer and mirror switch perhaps. Or even next to the clock. Would have to think a bit more about that one.

Generally cheap ebay tat tends to be so poor quality that even in normal daylight they are unreadable. The other idea I had was to just write an app so you can use your mobile phone and Blue tooth the info.

We are moving into Mobile software soon so I'll use the knowledge gained there to come up with something better.

My biggest problem is I spend all day writing software so coming home and starting again takes some will power (and bribes and take-out :) ).
