Dim Sum
Rear Strut Bar, Any point in having them?
nasoup
I would have thought for racing and drifting use the added rigidity could only be an advantage.
JustGav
Hmmm, unless it is rigidly attached to the car on proper points then not really.... but they do look cool

JustGav
So besides looking cool, there will be use for it lol I personally don't rate the bolt units as being anything good... A proper plated up section to the body and then a strut bar added that way with some decent jigging will be FAR more effective.
Scott
Nope, useless IMO. As Gav says unless they are mounted/attached to the chassis or something like a roll cage then they will do nothing. The front Cusco ones can be handy with the cylinder stopper, that's about it though. I have a TRD because it looks good
Kirk
As been said absolutley pointless mod other than to look cool. A strut brace is nowhere near regid enough to stop chassis flex.
monsween
Can you use a rear strut brace to mount harnesses?
Kirk
You could but you would pay the price if you crashed.
Scott
Can you use a rear strut brace to mount harnesses? I certainly wouldn't. The topmount nuts are only really there to hold the damper in place, not to take any force. The rear strut is held on by smaller nuts/studs than the fronts also, this would mean it's weaker than the front one. You can buy a proper bar that mounts onto where the seatbelt mounts are IIRC. Uses much heavier bolts.
Ian W
You could but you would pay the price if you crashed. So no then?

That was my plan anyway just wondered if i could do it using a strut brace as i imagine that'd have been a cheaper option.
Scott
That was my plan anyway just wondered if i could do it using a strut brace as i imagine that'd have been a cheaper option. Well it's all going to be down to the shear strength of the strut studs. I'm not so sure they would take 40st (theoretical maximum) pulling at 70mph+ without something giving somewhere. Kirk
So no then? Pretty much As i said you could do it but its far from recommended
Lude
what about the Do Luck body brace? i have one of these, are they just for show aswel? and also have the front strut & cusco master cylinder stopper....
Scott
what about the Do Luck body brace? i have one of these, are they just for show aswel? and also have the front strut & cusco master cylinder stopper.... Is that the cross brace that is underneath? It will probably be a bit better as it is attached to the chassis. If it is the one I am thinking of I think some people install them on aerotops, doesn't make it perfect but it makes a difference if the reports are true

DodgyRog
Carbing do a rear brace that bolts to the floor as well as the top mounts and there front brace has the brake stopper built in Although the rear is very hard to find, I am struggling anyway

Is it the same area that it bolts to? Any pics?
Dim Sum
So the rear strut brace is more of accessory and how much do they cost? I've seen the front strut bar price is about £200.00 plus.

Wez
Not really as there is already stock bracing in place, look at this pic, just under my cage you can see the stock bracing on each side
Kirk
So does that mean the front brace is pointless? In my opinion yes. The only way they would work is if they were 4 point mounted to the chassis itself. Think of it as an anti roll bar. They mount via 4 points, take the 2 chassis/subframe mountings away and the bar becomes useless therefore losing all front end stiffness ( no pun intended )
Wez
The Carbing brace with brake stopper is a worthwhile addition, I run one on my track car
