salvatore Posted November 2, 2010 Share Posted November 2, 2010 Hi all, Been thinking a lot recently about getting a cheap car and stripping it out to make a trackday special. Have just seen a ford cougar 2.5l v6 for £995, am mightily tempted, only its FWD:( It's a lot of car for under a grand, that engine is the same one out of the mx-6 if i'm not mistaken? Any suggestions? My idea is to just strip it out first, upgrade the brakes and suspension and take it from there... What other cars do you guys reccomend?? For any other car you choose:- I would suggest to strip it and run it one day on a track and then from the response the car gives you work from there. AJI Posted November 2, 2010 Share Posted November 2, 2010 Hi mate, For track day fun you really need RWD because FWD loses all the fun once you reach the limit and you get used to it. Old BMWs, MX5, 200SX, MR2 etc. etc. All will strip down and have decent power to weight for track day fun. Fit some hard compound tyres and you're away. There not but are light and suppose to handle well, BUT again saying that i have never been beaten with a MX5 and tbh not my trackday kinda car. I had a uk tt6 and crashed that then bought an N/A and within 1 trackday ripped the engine out and fitted a 2.5TT from a soarer in and its alot quicker and still handles like an N/A. Id watch some vids on YOUTUBE to see what cars go like and handle. Both me and my brother use turbo Supra's and its not very often we get beat even when we race lambo's - m3's - porsch ect. If you search around youtube we have plenty of trackday action so look under user names Suzuki17dt and numstig. Or just type in UK TT6 and view other vids from me. They aren't quick enough on the straights (though a S/C or Turbo is relatively cheap) but on the brakes and in the corners they will make up alot of time. They are fun to drive more than anything.
