Ali C
Just woundering if ayone has used or had experience with this particular belt as i am about to change the belt on mine:http://www.gatesracing.com/timing.cfm
AndyT
Just get an oem belt. 30 quid. Does exactly what you want and doesn't risk damaging your pulleys. Unless your running a 500 brake plus single of course.
Ali C
I have heard that the performance belts (HKS in mind) can damage the pulleys, just wasnt too sure about this one.? Plus it looks cool lol Edited November 1, 2009 by Ali C (see edit history)
Chiefgroover
Really? I would have thought that Gates, with their considerable experience and massive market share would have been careful to develop a racing belt that they could have been sure of? Ali C
I was thinking alone those lines myself, it's not too much more expensive and thought if Im doing it now, I might as well?
michel lane
I use gates belts on my cars , have had no problems with them at all. Excellent quality.

Ali C
The OEM are brillant quailty but im just wanting to know if the racing belt would be safe to use on standard pulleys?
AndyT
It's the kevlar belts that have exhibited problems in a few cases, Power Enterprise springs to mind. The Gates belt does look good. It is a race belt though, 300% stronger, it's made of harder, tougher material.
Digsy
What have you done to the valvetrain that makes you suspect you need a stronger belt?
Paul Whiffin
I use Gates Racing cambelts on my own car, and I keep them in stock if needed. Cheaper than the HKS, Greddy ones and just as good, Gates are a BIG company.
Tricky-Ricky
I use the std Gates belts on my single supra, really cant see the point in using a vastly uprated belt unless you have very lumpy cams and have changed your valve springs for uprated ones. Don't forget the most stress on your cam belt is at idle;) if it doesn't break then, 8,000 RPM is unlikely to do it.

Kirk
gates make 90% of OEM belts anyway so i you cant go wrong!
Ali C
What have you done to the valvetrain that makes you suspect you need a stronger belt? I havent done anything to the valvetrain, simply thought that if i am going to change my timing belt might as well use the best, not to say the OEM are of no use. I think i will just stick with the OEM belts then..
Guest blueangel
how much do you stock them for paul and do yours come with the tensioner pulley?
Kirk
if you want a gates belt why not just get a standard gates 1?

Ali C
if you want a gates belt why not just get a standard gates 1? Il get the standard gates belt or OEM, was just woundering if i did use the uprated belt would it be too hard for my standard pulleys?
Ali C
are they blue? Yea, think they only come in blue?
Kirk
it be a pointless exercise unless your running big numbers having a belt of that strength, id say its overkill for the pulleys! the gates 1 i got was same color as OEM the racing 1s are the blue but the standard ones arnt Edited November 1, 2009 by Kirk (see edit history)
Miguel
Where has all this talk of damaging the stock steel pulleys come from? Any proof. I've had expirience with belts damaging after market alloy geared pulleys, but not steel ones.
jevansio
I use gates belts too, no issues here
L33
This thread seems stupid. All the guy is asking is it ok to use, and most are saying its pointless stay standard? He didnt ask which to go for just said is it ok to use. Go for the gates one mate. The guys that said they use them are the guys to listen to and personally i would speak to paul if you have any doubts and get one from him .
