firstly check your oil level again when your engine is cold and go from there ;)

Don't do that, as it is incorrect and you can get an artificially high reading.

Oil should be checked at operating temperatures, a few minutes after switching off. You should check oil levels weekly.

yes you are of course correct I should have said after a few mins after turning off, I assumed Supra guy had checked his oil level the instant he saw his light come on, sorry

i checked the oil when it was cold and there was hardly anything in it..

When you say 'hardly anything in it' was there actually hardly anything in it or was it just at the bottom of the level on the dipstick?

Very different meanings ;)

I've never heard of leaking stem seals causing any significant oil loss, usually people say the oil level 'hasnt moved'.

exactly......

check the main oil sump seal....perhaps the oil filter

you sure when they serviced your car they actually changed the oil...?

The oil was changed right in front of me by my friend who is also a mechanic....

In my Supra instruction manual it says that the car can use up to 1 litre of oil to 1000km. If it consumes more oil than that it should be taken to the nearest Toyota repair shop. Why does the book say this, to pretend that shot valve seals are OK?
Every car manual I've ever seen has said the same, because it is acceptable for any engine to use a small amount of oil.

lets not forget that these cars were built and designed in the early nineties.
