Matt H
AutoCad! Yer avin a larf! Can you travel back in time? It's by far the best 2D CAD package on the current market. It's also excellent in its 3D capabilities

AJI
Yeah AutoCAD is still the industry standard for simple 2D and 3D work. I get a lot of people saying that SolidWorks, Catia, Maya, 3D studio etc. etc. are much better... well, yes, if you are going for overkill on a simple 2D drawing. For speed and simplicity then these are some of the main ingredients for doing quick 2D/3D drawings and I find AutoCAD to do it quite well. If I was freelance I would also join this bidding contest.... but a little too busy at work at the moment. extendor
It's by far the best 2D CAD package on the current market. It's also excellent in its 3D capabilities You really need to go into Solidworks and Inventor to get proper mid market 3D. Acad is hard work and is only a simple boolean modeller based on basic 2.5D principles and very clumsy surface modelling. edit - 2D is excellent I have to agree. But that is the pedigree for Acad and the 3D was added on very clumsily. Sorry my first post was a bit sharp. Apologies to anyone who read it. Burna
Been using Autocad for 2D for years, since release 10 I think. Just getting into SolidWorks and it's great fun to learn and use
Animal
I've had a copy of Revit sat on my desk for about 8 months, but I've not had the time to install it and have a play. That's going to be the way most Civil & Structural work is done soon.

AJI
Does anybody use Lightwave 3D ? Not wanting to sound big headed or anything, but this image took me all of 3minutes to produce. Simple shapes with textures added and then a light source and rendering. Its a program that was used to produce the likes of Babylon 5 on TV.
