StuartW Posted November 21, 2008 Share Posted November 21, 2008 I have a fiberglass boot and plexi glass fitted to my drag car (See link in sig) And the standard boot gas struts are too strong and you really have to push down hard to get the boot to shut! so i need your old ones that do not hold the boot up!! StuartW Posted November 22, 2008 Author Share Posted November 22, 2008 Because when you knock the broom handle out of the way or the wind blows it out it will hurt my head! Also i found this summer (LOL) it was good to open the boot whilst lining up to keep the cab cool etc Micheal; No matter where you push down it twists. I now have the plexi bonded in and it only made a slights difference to flex....Defo need weaker pressure struts. SO BUMP to some low pressurised old boot struts. My previous experience of these type of struts is once de pressurised they simply have no spring affect. Ther is no spring as such in them! They could possibly be fitted with a silver soldered, or TIG'd on Schraeder valve so the gas pressure can be tailored to suit the weight of the panel. Not a lot but certainly enough to blind you. You are correct that the pressure in the system is tuned to the loading but as far as I am aware that happens at point of manufacture and IIRC the gas is 'injected' past the seals in a charging chamber one batch at a time.
