JustGav
Thing is, this has the potential to become a VERY sticky thing. From what I have seen so far the US forces were across the border in Syria. If this was an unsactioned attack, it took place on Syria which up to now have been fairly quiet. Syria is also a nuclear power....
Daston
I think the UK needs to cut its ties with the US and just stick to business like all the other contries. The US is becoming more a threat to global peace than a becon of hope. land of the free indeed

Tannhauser
Have the US become a terrorist nation? Depends on how you define "a terrorist nation". If you define it as "a state that furthers its policy by targeting civilians - either directly or by proxy", you could argue that the US has been one for a long time. To take just one well known example, under Reagan, the USA sponsored the Contra rebels in Nicaragua. The US backed President Somoza, but he got overthrown by the Sandanistas. The problem from the US point of view being that the Sandanista government was communist. So the US backed the contras - a paramilitary force that just about anybody would have to admit looked very much like a terrorist organisation. They raped, murdered and intimidated their way across Nicaragua. Targets included schools and hospitals. Their CIA written training manual (really) had everything they needed. There's good account of this- not the politics, just the life of the people, in Salman Rushdie's non-fiction The Jaguar Smile. BTW, the world court determined that the US should pay reparations to Nicaragua for their actions. They refused.
Gazboy
First Pakistan & now Syria. How to win friends and influence people eh! What has Mad Dinner Jacket said? He normally sabre rattles every time the USA takes the p*ss and threatens them with the apocalypse.

Whilst I'm sure they had a reason we will never know. They are damned if they don't and damned if they do.

colsoop
The US unfortunately isn't very subtle about how it conducts its missions. I expect we are engaged in a similar role with our SF's but it is a bit more low key. There is a lot of activity from the Syrian border - it is a route across for weaponary and fighters. Yep, I agree to all of these comments... I think that I am sorry to say, the US are as bad as the Taliban and Al Qaeda by the way that they conduct themselves. The US has to get it's finger in everything and their mindset is: co-operate or face military action... It's no wonder, we are hated also, as we follow the US like a little lost lamb... The US is getting too big for their boots and we are going to go down with them if things don't change. I just hope Obama gets elected because then things will indeed change in the US... SilverSoop
Lets hope so. I just dont see it, even if he is elected. For one thing, he is going to pull the plug on Iraq and concentrate on Afghanistan... Because he is a Democrat, Obama is not a war junkie just like all the Rebulican's are... Obama also said that he was going to tax the rich in order to help working class families and below, which seems fair... Obama also said that he will cut taxes, fuel...However, Mcain won't... If Mcain is elected, abortion will be made illegal, Mcain will pump MORE tax payer's cash in Iraq....for what?? Mcain is very keen to create WWIII by the sound of things... Obama wants to, crucially, avert war...

Daston
OK land of the free, They kicked us out yet still love the queen (WTF) They then stole all their land from the natives and pretty much killed them off. They also imported a load of slaves, dosnt sound that free to me. I think they need to sort there own issues out first. Watching the news last night and they were talking to the public who were voting and most of them were racist as hell saying they aint going to vote for a (insert N word) I think its discusting that some of the public think like that. What was worse was that it wasnt just older people.
marbleapple
Its becoming a bit of a 'we hate america' thread this and what makes me chuckle is that we have lots of opinions and very little fact to base them on. The English making criticising the Americans is the Kettle calling the pot black. Might I remind some of you that not long ago we 'owned' 2/3 of the world and our powermongering has created many problems of their own. Also as some one also said, we probably are doing the same as the Americans re the border but we have the intelligence to keep it quiet. Obama also said that he will cut taxes, fuel...However, Mcain won't... If Mcain is elected, abortion will be made illegal, Mcain will pump MORE tax payer's cash in Iraq....for what?? Obama wants to, crucially, avert war... You seem very well informed about the future... You know this for definate do you?

Terminator
While the parochial antics of West dominate media attention, the Far East is rising with unstoppable momentum. There has never been a more important time for the UK to be a global player.
