Ok, for those of you who don't know I did the Espana-Santiago Endurance Rally last year, which was basically a 1 week long Gumball style event apart from the fact that the car you used had to be a non mass production car, last year I did it in a Caterham 7(3000 miles in a Caterham is hard work) it is also more gruelling than the Gumball as the navigator has a directions book and you have to have all sorts of timing and mesureing equipment as no maps or sat nav's are allowed.

I really enjoyed it last year and made a few new freinds, I also got to know Jeremy Clarkson's wife(Francine) quite well as we formed 'Team Gorilla' which was our team for the event, it was also our team that came first, we came second overall and got best in class.

Anyway I was asking Francine the other day if she had any photo's from last year and was telling her that I wanted to do it again this year but unfortunately didn't have a car ready. Then out of the blue the woman who organises it rang me and said that Francine had emailed her saying I wanted to do it and she said that one of the drivers was in desperate need of someone who could be a co-driver on some stages and who could also drive the car on some stages.

So anyway, I checked with work and guess what, I can go! woo hoo!!!! it's the 15th-19th of September and the car I will be doing it in is a Sylva Riot, but this year it's roma-italia, so it starts in france and finishes in Rome.

So anyway I leave this afternoon and can't wait :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I got back today and it was as good as last year apart from the hydraulic clutch kept on getting air in the system so I had to keep on bleeding the system and also the driver of the car ran over his glasses (with his own car :D) on the 1st day so couldn't see to well, I suppose this became most aparent when he didn't brake or turn for a left hand corner and into the ditch we went and also an hour of hammering the gear linkage as it bent it.

But i'm home safe so all is good and well.

Oh and it also rained all the way to Monaco (where it started) which meant I was quite cold and wet, we did have an umbrella but unfortunately without his glasses he didn't strap it to the roll bar too well.
