Ferrari deserve to be disqualified after those two pit stops...

That was unforgivably bad management... one early release and one running over the crew!!

the massa incident was terrible... however have seen similar in the past with no penalties...

To be honest.. I do feel for Massa, he does deserve to win as he drove well, set a good pace and was consistantly quicker than anyone else., but that is still a very dangerous situation, who is to blame driver or team?

have to agree, was dangerous and poses an interesting question... how do you penalise the team? take his points from the team title race?

lol - Massa has blamed Sutil!! - FFS.

I expect a 5 place quali drop for Massa UNLESS they decide that a precedent was set recently (hungary??) where Vettel and Alonso nearly crashed in the pits and no one was penalised.

Ferrari's lack of lollipop man is a concern to me and I think their automated light system should be banned. 1 man should be in charge of releasing that car, he should be looking at the pit work and the cars coming down the lane...their system at the moment does not include any checks for traffic in the pitlane it releases the car on completion of the pit work (well almost on completion - hope the refueling guy is ok).

EDIT - RESULT IN.

Felipe Massa has been reprimanded and fined by the European Grand Prix stewards, but the Ferrari driver has kept his victory at Valencia.

Massa's victory was in doubt after the stewards said they would investigate a pitlane incident after the race.

The Brazilian nearly crashed with Force India's Adrian Sutil when joining the pitlane following his pitstop and the stewards deemed his release had been dangerous.

As a result of the incident Massa has been reprimanded and fined 10,000 Euro.

So he's had his wrist slapped.

How can it be Massa's fault? He goes when the team release him and the regulations state that the team is responsible for the safe release of the car.

The McLaren drivers weren't penalised last year when the team got involved in the spying malarky because that also was a team isssue nothing to do with the drivers.

That's what I thought, Massa couldn't have known, it was a team mistake. Would have been a real shame to strip him of the well deserved win, especially after such an impeccable drive - that guy has talant, could still be an interesting tussle for the championship ahead :)

yeah the team should have been fined! but im sure whatever the fine was is peanuts to the f1 drivers and just another way of taxing the innocent!!!

although a ferrari fan through and through since Alesi days!! [so not a glory hunter] i believe ferrari have ALWAYS and will ALWAYS get away with stuff like this. if it was hamilton im sure the penalty would have been harsher!

I thought there would be no effective penalty as soon as they announced that the incident would be investigated after the race.

I bet the stewards concerned had red faces when they jumped on the incident so quickly. My guess is that they were made to delay the inquiry until after the race because the FIA had an earbashing from their pals at Ferrari.

But the damage was already done. The whole world had seen Ferrari ckoc things up and the stewards pick up on it, so they were obliged to do something. There's no way Ferrari would have accepted either the team or Massa losing points or a ten place grid drop next time round so the only satisfactory result is a fine I suppose.

I fail to see how it was Massa's fault though - the fine should have been applied to the team not the driver. Maybe it was for being a prat by trying to shift the blame to Sutil? ;)

Like VS said - if it had been Hamilton he would have incurred a drive through for sure. :(

I agree with you there - they should have penalised Ferrari.

I expected a time penalty during the race, that way the team and driver are punished, this way nobody is, ts a real cop out. 10k euros is a joke, the team will pay it. Im worried about the fuel man for Fezza, any reports on him?

*Edit* Also the 'automated lollipop man' system showed that Massa left ona yellow and not a green light *

That was the Raikonen incident. Massa's near collision was purely down to their being an automated system "in charge". If a human lollipop guy had been there he would have been looking back and seen Sutil coming.

Apparently he's got a minor fracture to his left foot.

I thought this was going to be a shit hot race at a very fast track, I feel short changed.

The e10k fine is complete boswellox. Should have been a drive through when you look at the rulebook.

Ferrari International Assistance again...

Those are pretty much my thoughts on it Gaz. After all the hype the race was a complete let down - no overtaking, no chance to challenge and another 'follow the leader' event. It was boring.

Massa should not have been penalised personally for the pit incident, it was a team mistake so cannot see any justification for a fine for the driver. The team should have been punished, not Massa (who IMO drove superbly through qualifying and the race and fully deserved 1st place).

I rushed back from London to watch my recording of it before anyone told me the result - what a complete dissapointment. I was expecting an exciting race on a new track with some overtaking and perhaps a few 'incidents'.. :(
