carl0s
A prime example of an IE-only website. http://www.servalsystems.co.uk click on the big OliOffice 7 picture and work from there. How poor is that? I've just tried Safari from my Windows laptop too and it's the same.
carl0s
Does this just make me sound like an arse?: Your website seems totally broken from my normal computer (using Firefox 3 web browser). I have to use my laptop to access it - it looks like your website only works in Internet Explorer, which is kind of like me having to go upstairs into the bedroom to watch Coronation Street on the 14" Grundig TV because Coronation Street isn't compatible with the 42" LG Plasma in the living room, or any other TVs except Grundig TVs for that matter. Anyway, I am looking into recruitment software for a Manchester based agency with approximately 15-20 users who are currently using Oxford Software's ancient Recruit package. Could you email me some information, flyers, screenshots, requirements etc of OliOffice 7? thanks, Carl ?

carl0s
Lol yes!! but I feel quite strongly about it. I think I might have had too much coffee, but it is the most broken website I have ever encountered, and by an IT company too.

Gaz6002
Does this just make me sound like an arse?: I'd be tempted to just vote with your feet. If they are happy with that as a representation of their business then who knows how good they are at recruitment? I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole... send them a mail telling them why you won't be using them!
ShamelessTT
It is a bad web site for an IT company i totally agree. I never understand why people use anything other than IE tho, whats the point? doesnt IE do everything you need?. I can honestly say ive never had the need for anything other than IE unless im testing a web site or something and i write software for a living lol. Because very simply, I can customize FF to suit and more importantly I choose not to use software that FORCES broken non-standard html and associated code. ActiveX is another VERY good reason NOT to use it. Firefox is also available on multiple platforms which IE isn't.

The web is an open medium, and is meant to be accessible to all. By writing a website that only displays in IE, you might as well just create some proprietary media platform and require people to use your proprietary client to view it. I have no IE on my Linux machine, and AFAIK Macs haven't had IE for yonks either. On top of that, I use Firefox on my Windows laptop out of preference. carl0s
doesnt IE do everything you need?. er, no. Firefox has given me tabs for browsing since as long as I can remember. I also like the live bookmarks, from the mkivsupra.net RSS feed (see pic below). These are reasons why I use Firefox over IE. I don't care if IE7 has introduced those features, I moved to Firefox to have those features when IE didn't have them, so why would I look to change back to IE just because it has marginally caught up with Firefox which I now already have? I have the same experience whether I'm on my Windows laptop, my Linux desktop, somebodies Mac, or whatever.. http://www.css-networks.com/rss.jpg
AlexM
Website is indeed very broken, granted they may not realise but I wouldn't touch a company that pays no attention to detail.
ShamelessTT
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp, i find that amazing theres a virtually 50%- 40% split between IE (7 , 6) and FireFox on internet usage. Tabs get on my man boobs, id rather have seperate windows any day of the week, however i use this feature in IE 7 now. Your a pureist u lot, its not like the sites dont work, alot of them just have minor tables out of line or something relatively minor visual issues in the majority. I wasnt suggesting designing a site for IE only if you read my post, i was simply saying i just dont see the real super, time saving, ground breaking benefits of using anything different to IE thats all. If the page complys with WC3 then it should display in any browsers. IE are cunning tho, as always they write in features IE specific on top of the standards. Its down to the page at the end of the day if they choose to use IE specific features that are not to the WC3 standard, you cant blame IE for that. Being a windows developer i consider there to be only 1 platform, Windows Hehehe everything else is tosh.

I bet you're one of those people who set the Windows XP start menu to "classic style" aren't you? its not like the sites dont work I suggest you install Firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com), or Safari (http://www.apple.com/safari), and try to use the website that I'm upset about! Ian C
I switched to FireFox because I was pig sick of IE going "IN YOU COOOMMMME, HAVE ADMIN RIGHTS, WHATEVER YOU AREEEEE" because it's so shockingly crap. Zero, that's zero, infections/spyware/attempts to install stuff/browser search engine and homepage hijacks etc etc since I switched. I come back with "I can't see why anyone WOULD use IE for the love of god, FireFox does everything, does it better, and is far far more secure and built with security in mind at the start". ZoneAlarm is set to block any access to the network via IE So Nyer -Ian

Gives you the best of both worlds, if you end up on one of those awful 'requires IE' sites, just click on the tab and away you go https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419
carl0s
Hehe excellent guess, your damn right out the about the classic themes on XP Im sad like that....lol I have no issues with the classic widget/window theme in XP, although I don't use it, it's the classic start menu & reliance on desktop icons that I can't deal with. The bigger/wider XP style start menu, with the My Computer shortcuts and what not is just so much more usable and I get frustrated every time I go to a computer that somebody has set to the Windows 95 style start menu! arvind8811
For web developers like myself, we have to used IE to test websites because majority of the internet users use IE than any other web browser. FF is excellent and the tools (add-ons) are brilliant! I've installed Firebug, web developer tool which are soo useful right now i've installed IE8(beta) which is like a catch up to FF! Nah, not an arse, just that you buy cheap TV's (PS - I run FF3 with IE Tab as some in house webapps at work require IE, but FF's so much better at what it does)
