How do you get rid of spiders?

My flat seems to attract large amounts of spiders. I'm not on ground level, I'm on the first floor.

They seem to hang around on all the windows and the balcony bit in the lounge.

It's at the stage where I don't want to open the windows in the bedroom for fear of waking up with one sleeping next to me.

Does anyone know how I can prevent them?

A cat and a hoover - prevention and affirmative action.

As in hoover them up - don't they live in the bags and breed? The flat is really clean and there isn't anywhere for them to hide in it, they just hang around outside the windows!

Give them some infraction point and then ban them? ;)

I find a hoover helps. Unfortunately, I don't mind spiders at all and just put them outside as and when I find them.

I don't think there's an effective way to stop them at all, unless you seal your house completely. I prefer them there than the other bugs we get this time of year.

Some of the mosquitos we get around here are becoming 'tropical' in size!

Yup - hoover them up. Even if they breed in the bag (VERY unlikely) they won't be getting out again until at the rubbish dump.

The perverse thing is that they probably have far more to eat in the bag, so will be happier :)

Job's a good 'un.

Don't they grow really fat and walk down the end of the hoover - or was the person that told me that just really evil? :scared:

Was it a member on this forum, per chance? ;)

I think they can walk back out again, that's if they survived the initial trauma, but as for getting fat and coming out to get you at night in your sleep. Well its a possibility :p

Like a gang of ruffians?

I vote cat as well, of even 2. Our 2 are also very entertaining when trying to catch one walking across the ceiling!! Zoe and I have been known to hold one each like a living weapon, pointed at the offending critter with flailing claw-clad paws outstretched.

well unless its hair spray , in which case youll have some lovely looking spiders , sprays are designed to kill.

first floor flat gaz

I did this once, it did work in that he stopped dead and didn't move again but think it's not the most humane way...at least hitting them with your trainer is quicker.:)
