Miles to the Gallon?

:iagree: The list of people spouting "if you have to ask, you can't afford one" need to wake up. These aren't cars for rich people any more. ;)
Certainly not - but just because the cars themselves are dropping in value doesn't mean that running them gets any cheaper.

I stand by my remark - if you are concerned about MPG, get something else.

I completely agree.

I make money enough to look after and run my car but im not loaded. If i was to start crying over 20mpg (roughly what i get) then i'd sell up and get a smaller more efficient car.

Like Adam said, if you start taking fuel costs too seriously then you won't love the car!

Yeah, but how often do we get people on here whining about how much parts cost? I've even seen posts asking "where can I get an oil filter for a good price?" They cost £8 from Toyota! :)

There seems to be (and always has been - this is nothing new on here) a touch of snobbery when it comes to fuel and oil costs, and yet I can't recall many posts where people bang on about their wonderfully high service bill or their fantastically extortionate new cam belt. Plus, an extra 1% MPG means we can all stand an extra penny on a litre without it huting our pockets :)

While I agree that in this case it’s a bit after the event, asking how many MPG you can expect I a perfectly legit and sensible question, IMHO. We don't know this guy's personal circumstances. He may be wanting to use this as a daily drive for many thousands of miles a year (as I do) in which case fuel will be his biggest bill by a long chalk. Or he may be wanting to use it as a weekend toy, and wanting to know how often to expect to fill it up. I'm hardly on the breadline, but before I bougth my Supra I made damn sure I understood the running costs and, yeah, that involved asking a lot of questions about what the MPG was, hiw much tyres were, what would servicing be, etc, etc, etc.

So, come on, guys. I know no one in their right mind would expect thes ecars to be economical, but no one likes writing blank cheques :) Next time someone asks, let's just give the them the information and try to avoid the comments?

I absolutely agree. I monitor my mpg. It doesn't mean I'm expecting to get 40mpg out of it. I think it's a wiser person who looks into the running costs, than one that says "pah, it's a thirsty beast, don't even ask".

I would only not bother asking about mpg if I had more money than I knew what to do with. I don't think many of us can genuinely count ourselves in that category.

:yeahthat:

Hence I bought it knowing it was going to be a weekend toy and not a daily driver!

i was putting in about £50 a week maybe lol just over a week was doin bout 30- 40 miles a day tho! so heavy stuff and i had it running way to much boost which was hurting the car- im hoping to save a few pennies now that ive got back on stock boost! :D

i agree they are expensive cars to run- but at the end of the day its not really our fault we spend that much on petrol- now im a big cynic when it comes to the government- i beleive that the capalist backstabbing liars are all overpaid and civil servants that pull the puppet strings even more. its the not the price petrol in the purity sense(although $9 a barrel is high? or is is higher now?) its the bleeding (i mean that in two ways) TAX! we get taxed 70% and we can thank the conservaties for the esculator idea and the labour party for carrying it on... in my view if we had havested the north sea oil - back into our country and not sold it- wed all be better off! but come one 70%- i mean their taxing you when ur dead! for everything- and i dont wanna hear oh but thats life if we didnt do that we wouldnt be a free nation- how is that free!!!! we r manipulated by the government! i say kill the 70% tax and make it resonable like 10% or 20- why should law abading motorists who basically use the vechiles to power this country be taxed!

rant over

who agrees?

so to answer ur question enjoy the car! lol

These cars were the super car of their time and some would argue still are. They are affordable to buy , mainly as a function of depreciation and lack of awareness (apart from forum membership). The irony is that their affordability will be their downfall. If you can't afford the mpg, can't afford to drive to a specialist to fix a fault etc etc, where is the enjoyment!!

So that reasonably priced supercar, could languish poorly serviced, little driven, tweaked by people with better knowledge than the total R&D might of one of the worlds corporate giants - a standard, boreing, well maintained, often driven example will indeed be rare!!!!!

so if you want to drive a supra (as many do) and if you have a turbo there does not seem to be a great saving in swapping to a NA on fuel costs; is that about it? cause i have considered it before.

ps - i can well afford the petrol but still grudge paying for it like everyone else and as such will now walk to the corner shop rather than drive! just look at me save the planet (ha!) for your horrid kids.
