Help! Anyone out there who knows a tuner type place in Birmingham area? Apparently Toyota have said my springs on the rear have lost their bounce and I need to get them relaxed by a tuning place - any recommendations where I can get this done? Also - they say a cambelt change is 250 - is that a fair price? Thanks, D

I changed mine on the front on a different car (and I'm not telling what that is!). I simply took my old ones to a garage whilst keeping the overall shape and they charged about £12 each for a nice new shiney one. Dunno about the routing, but make sure there are no major and too many kinks if you choose to.

magicmatty - do you have your LEDs wired to the positive that only draws power when the ignition is on? It seems like a common problem and so that's good to know. Even though I've reduced the current drain it still seems a little high. I still have the warranty on my alarm/immobiliser so I might call the guy and ask a few eleccy questions cos we may all be having the same problem. As I'm not electrically minded at all, any suggestions what i should ask, like "how much drain should there be?" D

MOT tomorrow, any ideas for checking things i might have missed?
DShox replied to a topic in mkiv Technical
ok so you've prolly checked all the lights etc and know that there aint something immediately wrong with it. 1) check where the tyres treads are in relation to the bud for legality 2) make sure there's no body rust or holes near any point of your suspension / wheel assembly on underside of car 3) check to ensure the rubber sleeves over your suspension arms are intact (a rip or break is an MoT fail) 4) make sure your break fluid pipes leaving the reservoir in your engine bay aren't rusted 5) check your wipers are working how they should - they'll expect a good clear window removing all the water (oh a fill your water res) Also - clean your car and ensure the inside is tidy - creates a much better impression and shows a car well looked after by the owner. hope this helps. -
HELP! Standard clutch slip, or is something else???
DShox replied to whitesupratt's topic in mkiv Technical
i was considering buying an nsx once upon a time but it had a worn clutch. I called around and some garages offered to 're-engineer the clutch' (ie. bring the old one back to life by machining it). any views on this route as a much cheaper option? ok you still may have to buy a new flywheel... -
gzaerojon has hit the nail on the head with this one - I was having exactly the same problem as you guys. I thought it was the alarm but it took a little while, but i noticed that the blue light on the outer edge of my CD player remained on - I previously thought it was just made of some reflective type material and ignored it. you'll need to simply remove your dash panels and either re-wire or unplug the connector feeding the light. Another source of constant drain may be the green ring light around your ignition - check to see if that remains on constantly too. must admit, mine is ok now even though it is still draining a little too fast. trouble is, when the battery drains the alarm keeps going off and since that has its own little backup - unplugging the main batt doesn't help!!!

yea mine was an exception cos more or less everything was out and some by a big margin. when i drove along previously the car would literally want to jerk off to the side (oi!) from time to time, and letting go of the wheel was a no no. your stats didnt look too bad - but it is the subtle tyre wear and grip that you're saving.
-
aye - if ever theres a kwik fit - use em! just phone around and ask how much the job will be in advance. I paid about £80 and I had everything realigned cos the numpty in Japan didnt realign on fitting suspension and tyres...feels like a different car now!

by the way - anyone know how much it costs to do cambelt and how often should these by changed on a TT? ta, D.
-
woooo 160! how'd u go for that dude??? i used bmtr on Walsall Road in Birmingham.
-
yea so your second document looks like the 'before' measurements where anything in red shows that the settings were out of acceptable ranges. my 4 point alignment cost about GBP80 inc VAT. some places (like mine) give a graphical print out like a top down view and side views to show what caster represents etc.

Wheel Ball Bearing - Rear Left + tools (massive socket)
DShox replied to DShox's topic in Parts Wanted
CJ mentioned your name to Steve and it seemed to work The bearing + rubber seals cost a wopping £160 odd (vs the regular price of £180). Didnt realise they were so pricey - but I'm gonna get a diagnosis from my local Toyota dealer, so if it is bearings I'll get one from Steve, then get my one in Birmingham to fit it. Can't believe how much time and effort and money this car takes up! -
Wheel Ball Bearing - Rear Left + tools (massive socket)
DShox replied to DShox's topic in Parts Wanted
yea thats not bad at all! - my wheel is thudding when it goes over a small bump or road defect...is that what you experienced coming from your front? as for wheel - i dunno just a bit clueless and desperate to get rid of the noise - I've been all over the place and spent ages in the searing heat this weekend changing the drop links, but found that didnt solve it -
hi, believe i need a new bearing to stop my wheel rocking - mine current one might be worn. The nut is on tight so thats ok but I also need to get the big nut off to reach it but my socket set aint big enough! My wheels are 18" Volk Racings - if that helps? So i need ball bearing and tools...anyone? Ta, D
-
ah ok thanks - got plenny o' t-cut and brasso..use the brasso on my exhaust !
-
thanks just checked it but its tight - could be a worn pin bearing just behind the big nut??? (i dont have a socket large enough to fit over it!)...are they easy to replace? Ta, D
-
hi me again, simple one for most - one of my headlights has discoloured - is it a case of removing the headlamp and putting in the oven or simply sanding the outside casing meaning its a 5 min job to restore it to its former clear glory!?!? Ta D

Hello again, A week ago I posted a problem - a thudding sound coming from the back each time i hit a minor defect in the road. Well I changed the drop links today on the rear and was disappointed to find the noise remains. On doing up the wheel nuts for both rears, I noticed that the rear left wheel rocks back and forth, and it is this that produces the thudding! When tightening the rear right, the whole wheel remains locked and there is no movement to allow the thudding noise to occur. Can anyone help please? - otherwise its the garage for mechanics attention for my Sup. Thanks, D

Supra 98 Twin Turbo VVTi (Grade 4 / Black / Light Mods)
DShox replied to DShox's topic in Supra Classifieds
thanks - guess you have to be mildly patient cos this is such a specialist market due to high insurance groupings...its insurance that nails the sports car trade i reckon. anythin' more than a nissan micra 1.1 and the insurers call it a sports car n' head for the hills and the government brand you 'an evil polluter' type! anywho... -

yup thanks Jake - i just didnt know how! -
Hello all Please refer to my http://www.autotrader.co.uk advert for details - link available from Jake's post 2 down. Priced at £14,500 for a grade 4 when imported in Nov 04 model (only done about 600 miles since) with the looks and mods it has is certain to attract attention. Members of this forum receive £200 off listed price - no offers therefore. I'm struggling with insurance on this as I'm 26 and cant keep paying out at the rate I'm doing at the mo, especially as I occassionally only use it on weekends. PM or drop me a line on 07886001454. Cheers, D

The solution may be pretty straightforward here. I have Teins on mine and I wanted a dampened ride. On the top of your shock absorbers (yes right at the very tip so you need to simply pop your bonnet and boot to see em), there might be a nut where you could turn it with an allen key (or in my case I could do it with my fingers). If you turn the nut clockwise (it should click in discrete movements) all the way on every suspension point, you will dampen your ride - similarly, turn it all the way anti-clockwise and you might as well have no suspension. As I say, that works for my Teins - dunno bout yours!
